A behind the scenes look at Meyer's retirement

This whole thing is tragic as much as it is comical...

From UF's Scout site...

"As he was finishing, he was telling us for most of us this will be good because some of us need to start over and make a new impression with another coach. Near the end of the speech the freshman class was going crazy, saying they were all leaving and they kind of lost it for the most part. It really hit those guys hard, but to the others it was not as emotional. It was mainly a dead silence and everyone other than the freshmen were just looking around.

Think any of those kids have buyers remorse?

Then there is this take...

The resignation of Florida coach Urban Meyer on Wednesday came as a surprise to many, but not former Orlando Sentinel reporter Jeremy Fowler. Fowler covered the Gators for two years, including Meyer’s resignation last year that lasted 24 hours before he decided to return.

"You could tell that Urban was burned out last year," Fowler said.

Meyer confronted Fowler last spring after Fowler used a quote from receiver Deonte Thompson that Meyer took exception to.

I hope Meyer finds peace.

The guy is a weird dude with NO sense of humor...comes from his relationship with his father who I hear is 10 times more intense and humorless...think of the "Great Santini" on 'roids...

Still can't get over 'SC choking in '06

I will never forgive Pete and JDB for choking the UCLA game and spawning the SEC/Urban Meyer hype. If that doesn’t happen there is no Tebow mania (no way USC is left out in ‘08 or ’07) and we don’t have to hear Gary Danielson spew nonsense week in and week out.

I still can’t figure out how ’SC lost that game. They were in control for most of the game, but they kept trying to run at UCLA even though they had Dwayne Jarret and Steve Smith. Once they actually let JDB sling the rock they got into a rhythm, and then that ludicrous self-tip interception happened.

I could care less about Meyer leaving. Good riddance. He ran a glorified a prison over there, yet ’cause he had one guy who happened to be a decent human being, and the media glossed over it. He was a great head coach, but, apart from a run in ’07 and ’08, his offenses were never really that dominant. In his 6 seasons his offenses were average to below average for about four seasons. It was horrible in ’05, they won defensive wars in ’06, above average in ’07; great in ’08, great at times in ’09, and absolute garbage this season. His success primarily came down to having a great defense and defensive coordinator.

Such a shame ‘SC never got to play one of those Florida teams. I’m an OU fan and I would have put my mortgage on ’SC winning in ’08. That was the best defense I have ever seen. Their evisceration of UCLA, Notre Dame, and Penn St. in the first half was eye popping (they were trying to beat traffic in the second half, no credit for Penn State “playing hard”). If our shitty defense could have held them to 24, ’SC would have held them to less than 10.

There was a firefight!!!!
