OSU players pledge to return for senior year
All 5 of the "to be suspended in 2011" Buckeyes had to pledge to Jim Tressell that they would return for their senior seasons and serve their suspensions before Tressell would allow them to play in the Sugar Bowl.
On one hand, hats off to Tressell for forcing these guys into a non-binding agreement to return for their punishment. We will see if it holds up with NFL millions on the line.
On the other hand, wow this turned out to be a win-win situation for Tressell. He used the Sugar Bowl to ensure that none of the 5 would turn pro. Seems like a bit of blackmail. He gets to have his cake in the Sugar Bowl, and he has all of those players back in 2011 after 5 games.
I will still be shocked if none of the 5 go pro after the bowl game.

As much as I dislike teams from the Big 12 and SEC, . . . . .
. . . . I’ve never hated nor disliked most of the teams from the Big Televen. A lot of it has to do with their coaches. I wasn’t a Woody Hayes or Schembechler fan- NO WAY! Now Coach Lloyd Carr and Coach Jim Tressel- they never seemed like bad eggs.
This new development with Coach Tressel and his players is a case in point. I’m not going to rant and rave on how awesome these teams/coaches are- I don’t know them from Adam. But, it’s their actions and game-day decisions that I applaud most with this coach. I like JoePa, just because he’s older than old-school, but RichRod? Sheeesh! Uh-uh, not into that cat.
Fight On Coach Tressel. I’m sure you’re embarrassed as hell, disappointed to no end, and feeling a bit ashamed to have these boys on your team. Make the best of it. Show the world these idiots will pay for what they’ve done to your school and college football. (in whatever small way the NCAA deemed necessary. Man! talk about “kid gloves” with these guys, eh?)

100% agreed!
What I’m not getting in all these recent NCAA decisions is: A) I understand that the COI, Enforcement, and Appeal Committees are now the “new” ones- as Dee, Conboy, et al have been replaced but. . . .B) Totally counter to "what"and “how” the previous committees have ruled on.
How can one committee rule on and validate a “didn’t know” pursuit to justice when committee members (not all of them were replaced, just the top half of them) of previous regimes didn’t, couldn’t, and wouldn’t- IN THE SAME FUCKING YEAR?
How can these new committees be so freaking cavalier about these decisions these days. They’re even PUBLICLY COMMENTING on their decisions, when they made no effort to do so in the Florida State, Alabama, USC, and North Carolina State/Kentucky decisions. They are truly putting themselves behind the 8-ball.
All these revelations about who chairs what committee, how long, and who else is on them- and to be part of such a largely public record without any semblance of shame regarding membership reminds me of the good ol’ boy network that used to run rampant in the racist South. The George Wallace days came to an abrupt end.
Methinks the Slive/Delaney days of running the NCAA HQ are slowly coming to an end. The sooner the better.
Tressel should “sit” these players- and there’s some indication he might limit their participation. I’d doubt someone else starts at QB for the Buckeyes- but I “can see” Coach Tressel punishing these players something fierce other than participation in this upcoming Sugar Bowl game.
And I hope he severely cuts into their playing time.

Appeal...
Plus, tOSU is appealing….and you just know the suspensions will get reduced. So the Tattoo 5 will only miss the first three or so games against the traditional cupcakes. It really won’t hurt tOSU in any way. The USC appeal? We’ll still get stuck with the full penalty.
For the amounts of money that they took
3-5 games seems appropriate. Playing in the bowl game is ridiculous though.
No way!
are all those guys returning. they’ve lied before…..
kind of a funny move on Tressel’s part though. deserves a….
C’mon Man!!!
