While he has yet to play a game thus far this season, it is now official. Per Michael Lev of the Orange County Register:
USC sophomore forward Evan Smith will have shoulder surgery Thursday and miss the rest of the season.
Smith has not played this season because of a torn labrum in his left shoulder. He suffered the injury last season and aggravated it during the Trojans' first official practice in October.
Smith, the only scholarship sophomore on the roster, probably would have played a minor role off the bench this season.
With a rotation of eight players, depth is not at a premium. Injuries are never a good thing, especially for this team.
However, a year ago, as a freshman, he appeared in just seven games, scoring a total of 13 points.
