An Open Letter to the USC seniors
Dear USC seniors,
Thank you for playing hard this season. You've overcome incredible odds, fought difficult circumstances, and have not given up. This is an open letter to you.
Your careers probably haven't gone quite the way you expected. You joined an incredible dynasty only to watch the coach who recruited you leave, the program receive incredibly harsh penalties for something you didn't do, and don't even have the promise of a bowl game to look forward to.And yet you're still here. The NCAA gave you the opportunity to walk away, to find greener pastures. You chose to stay. You chose to remain a Trojan. You fought on, you fought hard, and you didn't quit.
You have one game left in your college career. No matter how that game goes, and no matter what you do after that game, you will always be a Trojan.. Although you (and we) may not realize it now, in time, people will come to realize what you sacrificed, and what you went through. Your career had ups and downs, but no matter what, you will always be a Trojan, and will always be a member of the Trojan Family.
Fight on USC class of 2010. You deserved far better than you got, but you kept your heads high. I hope you can go out undefeated against your crosstown rival. Regardless of that result, never let anyone question your integrity, or your commitment to our program.
Sincerely,
Nathan Tiras
Class of '09

Someone needs to say it
I just wish I hadn’t said something stupid first.
Fight On! Beat the Wolverines!
Ah, we all have our moments
I would imagine that this is a ruder shock for someone who came through SC in the Carroll era!

Well done young man!
agree with DC, experience over time makes one better understand the ups & downs of life & football.
Take it from a semi-geezer.

Thanks for all they’ve given the University.
Let’s go out with a perfect record against the Bruins!
Ditto - thanks Seniors!
I was in school during two years of probation in the 80’s. Probation ended and we went to the Rose Bowl and won my senior year (hadn’t been in five years). I feel crappy today, but beating the bruins will make the off season much, much better.

You can't put sanctions on the fkn endzone! Bowls are for salad!
LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINK!
Way to go, my man. I almost couldn’t finish reading this post of yours.
It’s weird Link, the guys on the current roster- they seem to be almost “unknowns” to me. Whereas Carson, Troy, Malaefou, Kareem. Sultan, Keary, et. al- I saw those players around campus and they felt “close” to me in a strange way. They were the players that came & played through a remarkable transition.
Then there’s this year’s class. What a transition this has been for them?
Reading your powerful words gave me pause to reflect on what’s actually going on (in real time) right now. You hit the mark on the bullseye, USCLink- and I thank you.
Thanks to all the departing seniors. Trojans For Life!
In case you ever asked this offseason, could it get any worse?. . .In short, the answer is yes. (Joey Kaufman- Conquest Chronicles)
Its worth remembering
that USC got its nickname (not the Fighting Methodists one) because of the tenacity with which a team fought despite a certain loss. Being a Trojan is not about winning every game, its about getting up when life knocks you down. I’ve always thought it interesting that USC proudly wears the name of the loser of one of history’s (and myth’s) most famous wars. When Aeneas (a Trojan Prince) escaped the sack of Troy he traveled the sea eventually founding the city of Rome (or so the story goes).Fighting on is a tacit recognition of the fact that you can’t always win, but you have to keep going. It’s funny, every year at pro day a couple of older guys like Sultan come out to work out. At first it seems silly, and people like Wolfie laugh. The thing is, its not funny. They have a dream, and even in the face of adversity they try to make it happen. Giving up is easy, its fighting on thats hard. To this senior class all I can wish for them is that they fight on like we all do, its that spirit that makes a great Trojan, not wins or losses.
