Did you guys see the Fiesta Bowl? I didn't. But. . . . I just read about it! With Boise State's (#6) 17 - 10 win over Texas Christian (#3), the Bustin' Broncos of Boise State have finished their season undeafeted and THAT'S NO B.S.! And these Bustin' Broncos are not just into bustin' horses, 'cause with 12 starters returning next year, their gonna bust the BCS and crash a party or two.
Let's think about this for a minute? Even though Boise State's got to deal with strength of schedule issues for participating in the Western Athletic conference, with the likes of non-powerhouses New Mexico State (hello Coach DeWayne Walker!) and San Jose State (goodbye Coach Toomey)- they'll still garner a favorable, maybe top-5, national pre-season ranking. I couldn't find info for the Broncos 2010 schedule just yet, but if they play like veteran champions, those 12 returning starters could very well reach another undefeated season and make it into the BCS National title game next year. I'm sure schools on their schedule next year will play them like teams on our (USC) out-of-conference schedule and Pac 10 conference play us. Everybody wants to slay a Goliath if they're able and up to it!
I say, "Good on you Broncos, and good luck to you!" You guys have made believers out of me!
I've already spoken highly of some of the Mountain West teams, and look at this- The TCU Horned Frogs, BYU Cougars (#14), and Utah Utes (#24) played some amazing football this year. Respectively, those teams finished 12 - 1, 11 - 2, and 10 - 3. Now, it would be a poor-man's argument to dismiss these three teams by shouting out the ubiquitously retarded, " . . but they play in the MWaC, they've all got soft schedules" ??? Gimme a break already with that real B.S.! Not only do they have to play each other and practically beat up on each other- their strength of schedule means little when you see how all three of these teams played during their recent post-season bowl games. TCU lost that epic 4th quarter game to Boise State, which brought them with their one loss. Switch the outcome of their game and they'd be hearing the cheers you hear going all around the mainstream media these days that Boise State's getting. Including in the beginning of this particular fanpost! (see where it's headed here people?). BYU beat the crap outta Oregon State (#20) and Utah manhandled Cal (unranked, but #20 before end-of-season loss to Washington)- to give the MWac 2 premium signature wins over the Pac 10! Hell, with Boise State's early season win over Oregon (end-of-season #7), which almost led to a CFB meltdown not only by LaGarrett Blount- for punching that poor, taunting Boise St. m-fer, but by all the fans and haters of the Pac 10 once the Ducks got their asses handed to them on that fateful, ugly day! The WAC and MWac are here to stay and they aren't going anywhere. Any of these aforementioned 4 non-BCS conference teams can be highly ranked next year and make some serious noise if they get their deservedly high pre-season ranking for the 2010 college football season. Let's not also forget East Carolina, either. They'll re-load and seek to lock down some wins and also wanna crash the BCS-conferences' stranglehold on the title game next year too!
The most interesting part of all this is, will the BCS vs. playoff polemic die down once a non-BCS conference team makes it to the Big Dance that is the title game? What if, some team from those underprivileged conferences actually wins a title? (talk about meltdown? more like, pure; unadulturated, ape-shit-crazy pandemonium!!!)
