Around SBN: Will Rhymes 'Fine' After Being Hit By Pitch And Fainting

Why I left was not in any way an admission of guilt. It was a complete testament to a lack of support by my administration and how we were treated after four years of doing everything the right way. And that is what I've gone on record as saying.

That did not register well with me, did not sit well with me. I always said I would only stay at a place as long as I was wanted there. It was a situation where the athletic director was more worried about himself than our program. Everything we had done to establish that program as one of the top national-level programs in the country was being destroyed from within. Players being released, the treatment of our coaches, the treatment of me as the head coach. ... And at this point in my career, I didn't feel like I needed to stay there and deal with that. I felt I'd done enough over 33 years of being in this business to never have my integrity challenged and did not appreciate it.

Tim Floyd on his resignation as the USC basketball coach

Nothing too shocking here. I think it's quite evident at this point that Mike Garrett had a lot to do with nudging Floyd out the door. But at the same time, it's hard to believe that Floyd did "everything right" during his tenure at 'SC.

Makes me sick to my stomach

If Floyd’s account is true. Its sad if Floyd is innocent, and USC and Garrett cut him loose just to save the football program.

True

But in regards to Guillory I would put the larger portion of the blame on Garrett since he personally had experience dealing with Guillory in the past.

Agree with you 100%

Garrett is probably more in the blame but I have a tough time imagining Floyd was completely ignorant of everything.

Mike Garrett approved Guillory’s access, per Garry P. What do you think that Tim did wrong, JK? Should he have never recruited OJ?

From what I understand, every one of the primo one and doners was on the take from sports agents….Rose, Beasley, Mayo, Walker. I think Timmy’s job was to coach and recruit, and Garrett’s job was to enforce compliance issues.

At this point, Garrett has done for more damage to USC and our reputation than all of the good things he has done. Mike Garrett is a disgrace. It’s really a testament to the power of USC that our programs keep on keepin’ on in spite of Garrett.

This sickens me. How much hoops revenue did Garrett lose by allowing our hoops team to implode this spring? How could a competent AD sit back and allow our program and school to be tarnished by false and malicious allegations? Who wants to work for an employer who throws you under the bus at the first sign of adversity? This is why PC left too. Mike Garrett should have been fired 10 years ago!

FIRE MIKE GARRETT NOW!!!

No Joey, the program was not as clean as most would have wished, however, what went on, went on under the nose of an administrator who knew very well what takes place in collegiate basketball.

Garrett cannot chime in that he was or is, proactive in the administration of men’s athletics, he actively promotes what ever benefits himself and most, if not all programs are on auto pilot. Then it is his M/O to sacrifice the underlings.

When infractions or the behavior of an student athlete becomes public knowledge, Mr. Garrett dons his Halo and professes his righteousness and indignation, then starts lopping of the heads of departments, as was in the case of Floyd, concluding to himself that the problem is solved…not so!

This of course, is not the first time that indictments of incompetence and favoritism have surfaced regarding Garrett. President Sample is on the way out, and most likely Mr. Garrett will follow. Things can only improve in his absence.

Correct!

Garrett’s sanctimonious attitude and heartless destruction of the basketball program is unforgivable.

I'm glad this is coming out, and

I agree with Floyd (not saying he wasn’t a fool to give Guillory access to the program), but it was Garrett and his department that should have said NO. Garrett abdicated his responsibility by passing the case on to the NCAA to judge on Mayo’s amateur status. As far as Floyd the coach was concerned, Mayo was a great player and a good student. It wasn’t Floyd’s job to keep tabs on Mayo’s off-campus activities and examine the contents of his dorm room and wardrobe.

FIRE MIKE GARRETT!!!!!

All I have heard is negative about M Garrett & it all seems valid. When the all the dots are connected it leads only him. He seems to ignore calls from coaches including most recently Carroll, he did not the guts to face Robinson when he fired him to hire Hackett. He apparently drove Gilliespe to leave the Baseball program, undermined Floyd in the Basketball. He is considered an awful and arrogant AD nation wide… by other ADs… He really is horrid representative for USC. It seems he will do anything which undermines SC and why? I can’t stand his smug ‘all knowing’ smirk when I see him, especially during Pete Carroll’s final news conference at SC. How fast can he run now… I mean just push him out now …he should understand the treatment and should feel the same way others have felt because of him… GOOD RIDDANCE!!!
