If You Still Thought Corp Had a Chance
Bumped...I don't think there is any doubt now...P
This quote, from the OC Register blog, throws cold water on that idea:
He struggled with anything down field,” Carroll said of Corp, who completed 13 of 22 passes for 110 yards with one interception. “We were very fortunate that we didn’t throw three or four more picks. There were three or four more (interceptions) there for (Washington to take).
I can't remember PC ever throwing a QB under the bus so quickly and aggressively. Ever. He backed Carson Palmer in 2001 when fans were booing him, and he vehemently defended JDB through broken fingers and game-killing interceptions. I can't remember PC ever being so critical of a single performance from a QB.
While Carroll's just saying what a lot of people have been writing (that Corp's lucky to have thrown just one pick), I'm not sure what, if anything, Pete is trying to accomplish. Pete is usually Mr. Positive Spin. Is he sending message that if Corp wants to see meaningful playing time, he should transfer. Is he trying to light a fire under Corp? Since Corp is allegedly so sensitive that the failure to name him the starter earlier in the week is considered a factor in his dismal performance, I'm not sure what's going on. He sure ain't confidence building.
Which also begs the question: If the coaches have little confidence in Corp, then why not give Mustain a shot?

Taken at face value
PC isn’t just disappointed he’s wee-wee’d up.
Is he sending message that if Corp wants to see meaningful playing time, he should transfer. Is he trying to light a fire under Corp? He’s trying to help a kid that needs to realize he will never play a down in the NFL. If Corp loves football he should stay at USC and learn as much as he can from PC and staff -see how good they’ve been to Frankie Telfort.
Hopefully AC can graduate from USC with honors and join a high profile coaching staff. The Trojan Family has deep connections in the NFL and college football; who knows, maybe he’ll be the next Steve Sarkisian.
If not, there’s always business school.

I don't see that
Corp can still play and start, just not at USC

I thought Vince Young would be a stud
But if someone that physically imposing struggles in the NFL, and since the NFL really only “admits” about 10 or 15 so new QB’s a year, most of whom land on the practice squad, I doubt that Corp will ever even sniff a practice squad.

I became pessimistic about Vince Young
when he only scored 6 out of 50 on the Wonderlic (Booty sucked too 14/50), that said Vince is THE Pterodactyl.
As far as Corp is concerned, you’re making my point. What good is transferring to a D-II school and sitting for a year if he’s not going to make it anyway. He might as well get his USC diploma instead of settling for Central Southern Smallville College.

For some kids, especially those who
Have been star athletes through high school, the transition to not playing can be tough.
After playing competitive football at a high-level fueled by dreams of a professional career, surrounded by other athletes who are going to have professional careers, it’s difficult for most kids to say; “Wow, I guess I’m not that good. Might as well study for my GMAT’s!” Their self-esteem is wrapped up in being an athlete.
And you don’t have sit for a year if you transfer to DII or DIII.
Personally , and depending on his grades, and his parents financial situation (repeat, this is just me, not saying Corp should do this), I’d look into transferring to Harvard. They run a system very similar to what he ran in high school, he would have to sit out a year, they need a QB, they don’t suck in the Ivy League, Corp would be a God at Harvard, and let’s be honest, a Harvard degree blows away a USC degree.

Ivy football would be great for him, but it means kissing the dream goodbye.
As far as degrees go I agree; we’ve not cracked the top 25 yet, but things are way better than 20 years ago. Still, USC would be better if he wants a career in football, he could start as a graduate assistant under Bates.

I dunno
If I were an up-and-coming football coach and I received a resume from a former high-school star QB who spent three years in the USC system, who then transferred and played at Harvard and who is willing to give up Wall Street money or Yale Law for a $25,000/year graduate assistant position, I’d hire him sight unseen.

That would work but straight laced Cropy doesn’t seem like a Primal Scream kinda guy… maybe if he wore a cape?

Meh
If Corp was so bad, what does it say about Green and Mustain. Sorry staff, you have 3 HS All-Americans on your rosters (ok Barkley was injured) + a good QB in Garren Greet and you still put 10 points less on the scoreboard than freaking Idaho…
I don’t see Lane Kiffin throwing Crompton under the bus so openly.

Corp and Mustain are pure option QB’s. Sark and Kiff recruited Corp for whatever reason and Mustain asked to come here because he wanted to learn a pro-style offense. Garrett Green is a great athlete and a real player, he gets the Matt Cassel award this year, I agree with you on him, this kid gets it.

It’s a statement of fact. If that counts as throwing under the bus, oh well.
As for Crompton, Kiffin made it abundantly clear what he thought of Crompton’s previous performances – Crompton attempted a grand total of 19 passes, completed 11, and threw 2 interceptions – not that much worse than Tebow, but Crompton’s not a running quarterback. That contrasts with 13 / 26 with three interceptions against UCLA and 25 / 32 with 2 interceptions against Western Kentucky. The play-calling is the message.

that's different
conservative playcalling to show that you are not good enough vs mentioning names to national media

A fair point.
There’s something odd about the whole episode, but considering that the first person Carroll blamed was himself, I’m loathe to write it off to throwing Corp under the bus. For all I know Corp refused to take any responsibility. Or maybe it just took Pete a while to warm up the Gillig and back that shit up.

FWIW the biggest arm sitting on the bench is this kid
from tiny Windward in West LA.

He’s got a cannon and puts everyone but Barkley to shame.

I think John and James should share the load against WSU and the best stats win the position.
