Where is Vidal, I mean, CJ?
{Update: Apparently, CJ had the flu this week. Funny how no one heard about this before the game. And, it sure doesn't explain why CJ didn't get a rush against OSU}
Here are my gripes:
1) CJ Gable is inexplicably in the doghouse. CJ has the most starts among the RBs, 15 career TDs, and has been called by our coaches as the best all-around back. Despite averaging + 25 yds per KO return and being in the top 10 on our all-time KO return list, he has also been replaced on KO returns. I count at least 16 plays for +20 yard gains from CJG who is a dual threat as a great receiving back. Anyone remember this critical play in a tight game on the road:

Joe McFumbles is dangerous, yet averages 1 fumble per game. To all the Stafon-lovers, it is time to admit that he is our current version of Chauncey Washington – tough inside runner with limited break away potential, frequently missed holes, scores easy garbage TDs with the occasional long, untouched run. Our running success was greatly exaggerated by long McFumbles runs against OSU and UW. The truth is that the running game has been extremely inconsistent as clearly evidenced by our 3rd down conversion, or lack thereof, rate.
WHY IS CJG IN THE DOGHOUSE?
2) The CJG situation is eerily familiar to the Vidal Hazelton situation last season. Vidal had 50 receptions as a soph in 2007. Yet, was injured and benched inexplicably by the coaches in 2008. Anyone remember this play by Vidal against Notre Dame:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymfbrjf7e5k
Vidal was ahead of a young Rojo on the depth chart. So, why was Vidal basically run out of the program? Let’s face it, David Ausberry is simply not a very good football player. With secondaries focused on Damian and RoJo injured, how valuable would it be to have a good #2 receiver playing?
Why was Vidal run out of the program and why is CJG currently being run out of the program? It certain can’t be talent-level or merit-based. CJG is even listed as a co-starter on the depth chart, yet has 0 rushes in the last 2 games.
Would USC’s struggling offense be much better with Vidal and CJ seeing significant time right now? Is the coaching staff so arrogant to think that they can coach us to wins without our best players on the field by playing favorites and riding a wave of megalomaniacal grandeur? Pete’s arrogance has hurt the program!
I hope CJG announces his transfer this week. PC believes that he is more important than the players on the field. Clearly, we need to play our best players to win. PC’s merit-based competition theme is a joke and a sham.

I wouldn't take it that far amigo
We had early success running the ball but all Holt had to do was stack the box and crowd our receivers at the line to put a stop to it. Sark and Nick know Corp’s severe limitations as a passer and they capitalized like Wall Street insiders, they ripped his heart out, eviscerated him; but despite all that we still could have won. It’s no wonder PC was upset when Holt decided to follow Sark. Months ago Pete said this was the game that he was most worried about, they’ve got six of our coaches, our entire playbook and know all our players intimately. Unfortunately in the process they gave the rest of the Pac-10 a primer on how to beat us, so it’s up to Pete, Bates and Morton to evolve or we’re in for some hard times.
Now, Joe McKnight has some serious issues but the truth is he won that game at Ohio State for us and he was one of the few guys to make some plays on Saturday. He’s a break-out threat and can’t be ignored when he’s on the field. I’m more concerned about his ability to stay healthy, and the bottom line is he’s gone after this season because he’s got to take care of his kid. Stephon Johnson is about to lose his job to Bradford unless he gets it together very soon, but he’s got a kid too, and you have to treat him fairly unless you’re willing to blow up your city recruiting connections.
I’m as upset as you are, but calling out Pete Carrol and hoping that Gable will transfer won’t get us out of our current predicament. Give it a couple of weeks, CJ will get his touches. And yes, we miss RoJo badly and Vidal is certainly better than Ausberry but the guy we really really miss is Mark Sanchez, period.
Thanks to Mark’s departure we’re officially rebuilding, it was going to happen eventually.
We Fight On!
I hear you
But, we ran off Vidal, and it seemed very unreasonable at the time. Joe hurts us as much as he helps us. And, it is incredibly hypocritical to keep playing a fumbler. Stafon is this year’s version of Chauncey Washington. Allen is just boringly steady up the middle.
Until Joe Mc’s one drive, the running game was weak against OSU too. CJ didn’t have the flu last week! Why was CJ taken out of the rotation 2 weeks ago? Play CJ and Marc, if healthy, this week. Sit the fumblers to prove to the team that you are serious about turnovers.
UW was rarely stacking the line with 8 in the box. Their secondary and LBs played honest for most of the game, as evidenced by the incredibly tight coverage. It really seemed as if UW knew our plays.
But, the running game was not working well after the first quarter. A few big runs, but no 3rd downs conversions, no consistency, lots of TOs, and no putting it in the endzone.
We have young QBs. Do we harp on them all season, or try to strengthen our known strengths? A great O-line, some good RBs and WRs. Run behind the O-line all the way down the field, use Ayles more in the passing game, leverage our strengths.
Yah it really sucks how it all breaks down to many toys in the cupboard for Pete.
PC had all week to put in some new looks for this match-up but clearly didn’t do enough, kind of looked like the Waterboy Movie. I say that because it look as though the huskies had our playbook, and I think the playing field was also different. Now you have to say is everyone going to do the same thing against our offense maybe or maybe not.
Heck even Petros ripped PC on LOcal TV with Fred Rogan after Giants cowgirl game, he is clearly becoming a UCLA homer. He has a mouth as big as my ASShole in my opinion and I wish somebody would put a foot in it. I going to refer to him as little Chowson!

Mystery solved!
From Michael Lev’s increasing invaluable blog at the OC Register:
“Tailback C.J. Gable, who started 11 of 13 games last season, did not play in USC’s loss at Washington on Saturday because he had the flu.
"He was up all night sick and sick as a dog Saturday morning," USC coach Pete Carroll said. "He wanted to try, but unless we ran out of guys, we were going to hold him out."
Given the Trojans’ fumbling problems Saturday – four fumbles, two lost, all by running backs – Carroll said Gable has a chance to reclaim a spot in the rotation against Washington State.
"C.J.’s been solid in all areas," Carroll said. "I wouldn’t hesitate to play him at all."
Idiot.
Doesn't Explain OSU, does it...
jerk-off? Douch-mo is happy with the running game and Ausberry, huh? Maybe you should join the coaching staff. And, the comment included the Lev update. Read first, flame second, flame on forever.
Play Marc (when healthy) and CJ. Cut back Joe and sit Stafon for a week.
will you guys quit fighting you sound like me and Phear over at WeareSC
I know, I know I should have said phear and I just thinking like a bruin.

CJ was Ready
Apparently PC was spinning a story to protect his double standard. Coaching hubris. Don’t believe the spin.
