I took a look through the comments sections for a couple of the sections on the Cleveland Plain Dealer yesterday, and the comments were heavily tilted towards that sentiment – if not outright calls for firing, pinning the results on the conservative coaching.
I don’t know what I’d think if I were a Buckeye alum / fan – I mean just how far do they think they would have got in the last few years without Tressel? That said, there’s no getting past the fact that the coaching decisions in Columbus didn’t set the players up to win, and given the focus and tenacity that they displayed, that’s a shame (for them).
Re: Firing Tressel
If the results of Saturday’s game had gone the other way, and it was close, as a Trojan fan, I would have been upset with Carroll’s decision to start a freshman QB, the numerous questionalbe plays called by the O.C. re first down, run, second down, pass time after time, and generally be perturbed off with “yet another blown season” , Sound familiar?? OK we won, but , this you really need to keep in mind, Tressel is without doubt in the top five coaches in college football, period.
Without doubt , Saturdays game put any doubt re the Bucheyes not belonging in the elite program catagory completely to rest- made a fan out of me.
Its harder to win the college football championship than it is to win the super bowl. Just ask Brown, Carroll, Sagan et al.
Is Tressel as good as Carroll? Probably not, but then who is? Are there flaws is Ohio ST"s team? yep, but thats true of the rest of the elite teams as well.
The reality is your program’s glass is 95% full, not 5% empty, think twice about changing who got them there and who has kept them there.
Really I think all the top coaches are really close and yes winning a national C is very very very hard
No playoff system hurts all teams so I don’t really carry around the NC banner, but CF is just pure entertainment. Take saturdays game if you were not glued to TV then you are not a FB fan period or you had to work. I mean while we were all watching the trojans pull one out, we missed one of the greatest melt downs in tennis history.
Thanks Serena and confirming my and all of my tennis friends here in Cali, for showing who we thought you were. Oh and for all you Ucla folk one or more of her older sisters are GRADs.

You are only as good as your 2nd serve and 1st volley

It could be a rough year for Tressel
I can easily see that team going 8-4. Michigan looks much improved, beating Penn State will be very tough, and I happen to think Iowa may upset them.
If those events occur, OSU will lose 3 straight and the heat will really start to increase – deserved or not.

Chris Brown from Smart Football
has great deconstruction of Tressel’s play calling over on Doc Saturday’s blog. Definitely worth a read and definitely something that makes me think the Senator at least needs to hire a new OC.
[DELETED ZOMG NO POLITICS]
It just re-inforces the fact that the biggest problem with the Big Ten’s upper echelon (not “lack of southern speed” or other cliches) is coaching. Hopefully (for us, anyway), Tressel will adjust. Michigan has done so with Rodriguez, and we’ve done so with the “Spread HD”.
