The Fans Fire Back
Here are some letters to the editor in regards to Plaschke's piece "He's Pushing It"
I like this one in particular...
I just filed Bill Plaschke's "He's Pushing It" [Aug. 8, 2009] right next to his insightful "Westwood, Ho!" [Oct. 25, 2001] column in which he proclaimed, "This is a Bruin football town, and has been a Bruin football town, and will continue to be a Bruin football town." Less than a month later, USC shut out UCLA, 27-0, and then accomplished more over the next seven years than the Bruins have accomplished in their entire football history.
So now Plaschke writes that someone "needs to act contrary to every philosophy that has been preached to every corner of the USC program during its every step to greatness." Great advice, Bill. But then, I forgot, this is a Bruin football town.

I loved this line the most...
...USC shut out UCLA, 27-0, and then accomplished more over the next seven years than the Bruins have accomplished in their entire football history.
Nothing more needs to be said.

A friend of mine asked me a question the other day
This is how the conversation went:
“What do you think a reporter’s job is?”
“to tell the truth?”
“noooooooooooo….. a reporters job is to create controversy.”
Plaschke is doing his job well. He is cited 4 year old information, and a weak opinion of an NCAA rule to bolster an argument that Pete Carroll is out of control.
Our program may have a lot of issues, but so far what’s come to light isn’t all that new or big of a deal.

Blogs and bloggers have a bad reputation amongst the main stream media and casual fans.....
But I will take the honesty, passion, and immediate accountability of blogs over the “anything to sell a newspaper”, dis-honesty, complete lack of accountability, and flip-flopping of the main stream media.
Well, sir, you are a cowardly son of a bitch! You just shot an unarmed man!.......Well, he should have armed himself if he's going to decorate his saloon with my friend. – Will Munny

The NCAA isn’t calling Rodriguez a violation. Good reporting LA Times!

Do you think PC “pushes the envelope” too far as opined by an LAT writer this weekend? Is Mike Garrett unable to manage PC?
A: Pushes it how? His success means he does have more power to do things his way than other football coaches at other schools. But you have to be specific on things. For example, the story on Pete Rodriguez seemed overplayed, especially since the NCAA did not say it was a violation and USC was open about its arrangement. Now maybe that will not be the case in the end but right now, there’s been no violation.
