Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

The University of Felons

Criminality, funny how SEC homer "sports journalists" keep whitewashing this little known *cough* fact of life in America's "Best" Football Conference.

Off-the-field Trouble, Arrests Continue to Plague Florida Football

That's certainly been the case at Florida, where there have been 24 arrests involving Gators over the last four years under Meyer.

Although the number of Florida players arrested is similar to that of its rivals, the Gators are getting attention because they have won two national titles in the last three years and have a coach who emphasizes good behavior.

Poor Gators, if not for that pesky spotlight they live under they would be considered "normal" by SEC standards.

Florida State's football program has dealt with 13 arrests over the same four-year period, according to research by The Gainesville Sun, while Tennessee has had 21 arrests and Georgia 30.

At least Meyer can boast that his program is not the worst offender.

Although Meyer has been known to give players a chance to redeem themselves, he has cut ties to those who repeatedly find trouble.

Meyer kicked offensive lineman Ronnie Wilson, safety Jamar Hornsby and cornerback Jacques Rickerson off the team after giving them multiple chances.

Wilson was arrested three times in a year and a half, the first time for punching and spitting on a man outside a Gainesville nightclub in April 2007 and then taking an AK-47 assault rifle out of the trunk of a car and firing it into the air.

Urban really knows where to draw the line, now everyone knows that shooting it up with an AK-47 is a real no-no at UF.

Mr. SEC summarizes the last four years:

Also, since I’ve received so many emails telling me to stop covering this story, to stop linking to other people covering this story, and to realize that UF’s arrests were all on the small side, I decided to rank the teams below (using Mr. Brockway’s numbers) by felonies.

The findings:

School
Arrests
Felonies
Misdemeanors
Florida
21
9
12
Tennessee
21
7
14
Georgia
30
4
26
Fla. State
13
3
10

Very impressive, that's 84 arrests and we're only looking at four of twelve SEC programs. Do SEC fans know how to count past 10?

Life goes on as usual in Americas "best" Football Conference, and clowns like this should take a long look at their own dirty laundry before pointing a grubby finger.

Awesome Post!

Imagine the coverage if these teams played in major media markets. These lists help to put everything into perspective, and marginalize the hypocritical BN rap sheet on SC. Para, have you thought of creating a Bruin rap sheet to counter our silly, obsessed little sisters across town?

No, I haven't...

and I don’t plan to.

I have too many other things that are too important than to worry about those clowns across town.

I did see an interesting post from “you know who” about EJ Woods leaving and being interested in possibly coming to SC after a year at SMCC…I like how they eat their own over there when all of a sudden they don’t fit the “ucla” mold. Wasn’t he a Slick Rick commit??

God you can’t make this stuff up sometimes…

Over at Bn they always say how SC has controll of the police BUT

If you really think about it they are the one who have the police in their pocket, for the fact that they never really have any problems. No CRIME IF YOU TURN THE OTHER WAY

I know this is no surprise, but

Nestor conveniently washed his hands of E.J. Woods, as he left the bruins this week, and managed to rag on USC at the same time. Its great how he keeps track of all the bad things our athletes have done, regardless if the allegations were correct or not, and then has the stones to dub exiting bruin Woods a Trojan before he even steps on campus.

I like the creativity coming from that guy. It really bolsters his point of view when a true blue bruin gets 3 accusations of sexual battery, and he still ends up ragging on USC. Dude… nestor…zaheed….. no one is ever going to take you seriously. Fun fact is you probably don’t give a rip if they do. Keep up the good work in demolishing your integrity and any credibility that you might have in any opinion on USC.

Yah here is a good one

Huh
and some other blog, of some other Pac-10 school like in South LA called the Bruins a bunch of names for saying EJ needs to be harshly dealt with.

Phil Steele and Mel Kiper

are at it again. What a way to start the 4th; just 30 minutes ago those two ESPN tools proclaimed that the winner of the Red River Shootout (Texas-OK) and the winner of the SEC (FL of course) will (not might or should) be playing in the BCS Championship.

Thanks for posting/linking this

I always appreciate it when someone provides interesting information that I’m too lazy to research on my own.

Since I started commenting over here at CC. . .

. . . I’ve noticed shift of rivals’ opinion on the USC/fUcla polemic. Maybe it’s just “cardinal colored glasses”?- but I would doubt it? But, the underlying sentiment- as it appeared to me, was that “USC was the bad-guy” and “fUcla was the good-guy” in our rivalry with one another. But if you peruse over to Addicted to Quack, CGB, UW Dawg Pound, or whatnot on SB Nation. . . it is now apparent that those thoughts are in the past. And it’s no wonder, Paragon SC has put together a great staff of authors (we miss the bejeebus outta DC’s entries, though) and has remained steadfast in his position of “staying above the fray”.

Thanks to his direction and authority over here on CC, we’re easily able to prove to any and all- the “real” good-guys in the Trojan/Bruin relationship. Those BN-ers are viewed as just that: BONERS! With a hard-on for everything Trojan. Not a good thing. But, good for us- in a way. Their predilection for Trojan ridicule has only proven their sense of utter inferiority of us. Thank you Nestor, your self-esteem (or lack thereof) is locked in a room called Heritage Hall. Fat chance in ever getting it back, yo! (oh, and God bless you BN-tools. Got thoughts? (of your own?)

Comer4tide to Nico2.0: "How come I've never heard of any of your random songs?"
Todd to Comer: "Because if you had, he wouldn't listen to it. BOOM. Roasted."
Nico to Todd: "Shouldn't you be off voguing somewhere?"

This whole Florida thing

brings back fond memories of a bruin on this site claiming 2 years ago that Urban Meyer ran a successful program in Florida without any of his players getting into trouble.

That wasn’t true 2 years ago, and it sure is getting more false as time goes on.

by frak on Jul 5, 2009 12:58 PM PDT reply actions

Which Bruin said that?

Heck even I knew 2 years ago Urban Meyer was going to have problems…

by Paragon SC on Jul 5, 2009 1:21 PM PDT up reply actions

It was one of our regulars

I really don’t think he knew just how bad Florida was.

He’s a cool headed bruin. We were having a discussion on how success breeds more scrutiny from the press, and more careless attitudes from players. He brought up how Florida didn’t have any problems like that after they won their first NC. Then I brought up 5 examples on why they did, which included one of their players firing a semi automatic assault rifle into the air to scare some people at a bar.

Bingo!

You were right!

You can read it here.

I had forgotten about that…Oh well.

There were some funny posts in that thread

I love the one where he reasons that only players that Pete Carroll recruited were the trouble makers, and that when all of Zook’s recruits were gone, Meyer would only have a handful of trouble.

Guess that sure rang true.

Man, that thread looked quite entertaining. Glad I’ve found CC now. Bring it on, SuperBruinMan.

Well done frak & Paragon

With 9 felony arrests UF leads the short list in arrests for serious crimes, I wonder what the numbers are for the choir boys at LSU and Bama? I’m glad you linked that exchange with sbm, it demonstrates the double standard the clowns across town apply to USC, and how things have only gotten worse under Meyer.

They’re waiting with open arms for Joseph Fauria who was suspended from Notre Dame for repeated sexual misconduct while they celebrate the departure of E.J. Woods for repeated sexual misconduct. Oh, and Woods is really a Trojan anyway… huh? Some Bruins are transitioning from delusional fanaticism to psychosis.

But don't we have a 1 800 EX-FELON hotline number

Yah thats the ticket call USC give us your crime and we will evaluate and if you qualify, we will set up an interview.
