Frank Deford shares some thoughts on the NCAA and the BCS...

I am not sure I completely agree with Deford but I think he does a good job of pointing out the NCAA's hypocrisy while also pointing out that our elected officials, regardless of who you voted for, are wasting theirs and our time on something trivial as the BCS.

It is a big deal to CFB fans but not to the vast majority of our fellow citizens...

This is a decent read.

Good Read

Yeah, congressional involvement is an interesting debate. I thought the baseball steroid hearings were a complete joke, since steroids wasn’t even a banned substance by baseball during the primary time in question. I still feel like the players were unfairly persecuted when the blame should have gone to MLB and the players’ union.

However, I have come to think that BCS hearings and congressional pressure are a good thing. It is a billion dollar industry likely in violation of federal anti-trust regulations. And, the BCS system does seem to inflict $ millions in damages to teams and conferences unfairly treated by the system, like the Pac-10 and Mountain West. Also quite interesting, it appears that the bowl defendants perjured themselves up on the hill:

Apparently, Congress has historically held hearings on issues that worry the broader public, regardless of their substantive impact on our everyday lives. I support the hearings on the BCS, but thought the baseball hearings were a travesty:
