Reaction VI: I always judge coaching hires based on what I expect to be reaction within the league or what I know to be the reaction within the league: Generally speaking, if the other nine coaches are worried, it’s a good hire; if they aren’t concerned, it’s a neutral/bad hire. My educated guess, based on what I was told during O’Neill’s stint with Arizona in 2007-08, is that Howland, Montgomery and Romar aren’t shaking in their loafers.
