This weekend Oak Hill has been playing in ESPN's inaugural National High School Invitational, and Lamont Jones has been leading the way for one of the nation's top ranked teams. From the article:
How has Jones done?
Let's ask legendary Oak Hill coach Steve Smith.
"We were 34-4 [last year] and we basically traded Brandon Jennings for MoMo Jones and we're 40-0," Smith says. "I'm not saying MoMo is a better player than Brandon, but for this team [he is]."
...
In an 83-64 opening-round win over Pinewood Prep (Summerville, S.C.), Jones had 20 points and five rebounds. In Saturday's 74-66 triumph over St. Benedict's (Newark, N.J.), he had 22 points and five rebounds.
Like I mentioned before, I'm not really a big fan of his game (at least what I saw) but the fact that he can penetrate into the lane and hit the three at a decent rate are strong positives to build off of. I caught a glimpse of one of the tournament's games when I woke up this morning, and I saw Jones make an incredibly difficult shot in traffic which was reminiscent of some of the nice drives Isaiah Thomas has had for Washington this season. Obviously "Momo" needs to learn to be a better distributor, but he seems like he may be a nice get if SC picks him up.
