Sanchez passes on N.Y. invite for draft
USC's Sanchez passes on N.Y. invite for draft The player's brother says Trojan QB has turned down an offer to join other prospects at Radio City Music Hall in favor of remaining in Southland with family and friends.
Nine pro prospects will be heading to New York for the NFL draft, but USC quarterback Mark Sanchez will not be among them.
Sanchez was invited to attend, his brother said today, but decided against it because he wants to be with family and friends for the April 25-26 draft. He is expected to be among the first 10 players selected; The Times' latest mock draft has him going eighth to Jacksonville.

I cleaned up your link...
And a friendly reminder please don’t copy and paste entire articles…don’t want the big boys to get ticked off at us, just take a snippet.
I am fine with not attending
Being of Hispanic decent myself, I completely understand his wanting to stay home with his family and celebrate with those who could not attend.
Goo for him!!
You have to work your tail off prior to the draft
then soon after your drafted mini-camps start. Draft day is a day without work for the player and a day for the player to enjoy. If Sanchez wants to be home for the day then go for it.

No surprise at all!
I posted this comment previously over at Wolf’s, but since Paragon and Bix are fellow Latinoamericanos, I decided to indulge my Mexican soul. I hope everyone understands:
Locoweed 1.1said:
This is where our Latin-American culture takes precedence over business. For Mark this is not about his personal triumph, it is an event to be shared and relished with his entire family and as many friends as they can squeeze into their home. A Draft Day fiesta with a heavy Spanish accent.
I wish we could all be there amigos. The Antojitos will be delicious and bountiful, and the Tequila and Coronas will flow like rivers of gold. There will be aunts, uncles and cousins, smiling Señoritas, little kids running around, former coaches and teammates, childhood videos and raucous laughter; then a phone call from New York… hugs and tears of joy. There will be time for speeches and they will toast to Mark, to Mamacita, to Papá, to Coach Carroll, to everyone, Salud!
Congratulations to the entire Sanchez family, stay true to them muchacho.
Taxis for everyone. That’s an order!

I understand his 98 year old abuelita will be part of the celebration. Personally, I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Good one Locoweed!
The Hornitos and Padron’ flowed like water. And potato and macaroni salad, no one makes it better than my 5 sisters (it’s a competition thing at this point)
What we Hispanics have taken on in our culture among anything else in these newer generations is: Mother’s Day! (I’ll be going back to the Bay Area on May 10th, AGAIN!)
Sanchez did right. Stayed at home with family and friends to hone his mad skills and keep his head on straight. NYC, as much fun as it would have been for him, was completely out of the question. He’s serious about being a professional. Being the best he can be is not just a “motto”, but an embodiment of all of what Coach Carroll and Coach Sarkisian has drilled into him. And something he will strive towards and do for the rest of his life. (I hope)

Mark Sanchez, #1 QB in draft?
This is true, according to the kind words of NFL Network’s Mike Mayock. (as reported by Micheal Lev @ Orange County Register
Mr. Maycok has elevated Sanchez to the top spot, and he thinks the Denver Broncos – who own the 12th and 18th picks – would be nuts not to make a run at him.
"If they don’t try to get Mark Sanchez, I think they’re crazy," Mayock said during a conference call with reporters today.
"The bottom line is, if their head coach (Josh McDaniels) goes 4-12 with Kyle Orton, he gets fired. If he goes 4-12 with Mark Sanchez, he’s rebuilding."
Wow, pretty impressive compliment. For the record, I always thought Mark was the better of the two (Stafford and Sanchez). Although Stafford has more college games under his belt, you’d think he’d gain a healthy amount of distance between he and Sanchez. This obviously was never the case. So what we’re dealing with are two similarly built QB’s, one who probably has better arm strength (Stafford), another with more exciting and play-making ability (Sanchez), one who didn’t accomplish all of what he wished to or tried (Stafford), and another who played above and beyond expectations despite having his playbook “dumbed-down” so as to limit the amount of TO’s/INT’s that might otherwise result because of said lack of college game experience (Sanchez).
I look at it as Sanchez having less wear and tear, a “higher ceiling” of potential, a MARKETING GOLD MINE!, (ethnicity, ability, insane good looks), a proper Catholic-mindset in showing contrition for previous failures and wanting to erase the “sins” of causing harm to himself, the team, Coach, and the University of Southern California.
This homeboy will REPRESENT. He’ll do better in the pros than Leinart and Booty, he may even outshine Palmer. That’s my take, and I’ll stick to it!

Mark has a Star Quality
I like your take, Bix. Yeah, Mark seems loaded with those ambiguous X factors, or intangibles, that all great NFL QBs have. He may have the best leadership skills of all the past SC QBs. I think Mark will be an NFL superstar….in a few years.
