Stranger Things Have Happened...
…with a healthy, or at least healthy enough to play, Marcus Johnson, Leonard Washington, and Marcus Simmons, SC is a different team than what we have seen for the last 2 months. I won’t be surprised if we make a run in the tourney with a slight home advantage. We should have swept Cal, we then have a revenge game against a sliding UCLA, then a very winnable game against probably ASU or Wash.
A "sliding" UCLA?
We’ve won 3 of our last 4 and the one loss was a one-point loss to a ridiculously hot Taylor Rochestie and Wazzou on a day where they just could not miss. I’m not sure “sliding” is a good description of UCLA right now and even if we were “sliding,” we’ve handled both times this year and there seems little reason to believe we couldn’t do it again. Anything is possible, though, and you guys have to knock off Cal and we have to beat WSU (probably) to set up the rematch.
Correction: UCLA has won 4 of it's last 5
The loss to WSU was followed by wins over Cal and Stanford on the road and both Oregons at home. How does winning 4 straight qualify as a slide?
I Hear the Bruins are Rocked by This...

The Loves were on the payroll. Plus, I don’t count the Oregon schools. SUCLA was 3-3 prior to the Oregons, and lost the conference seasonal championship after being the overwhelming favorite. The Bruins are stumbling. Yet, I do think they are simply a bad matchup for SC, as they can out-athletic and out-quick us.
interesting article...
Just goes to show that organized basketball is a dirty business.
lots of ambiguity there in regards to Love or his family taking any money…
Where's the ambiguity in this.....
"We will get all the money back on side deals plus money laid out to the Loves," Kapneck wrote in the email. -Dean Kapneck, COO Ceruzzi Sports
I don't know...its not like they needed the money
it could have been Barrett blowing smoke at Ceruzzi and keeping the money for himself. I just don’t see Stan Love as being that stupid. Nothing would make me happier than to have this be true to shatter the “image” cleanliness across town but I just don’t see it…just too vague for me.
As someone else said in an email to me, I think the bigger issue is that it just goes to show that even the great Ben Howland has to make a deal with the devil to get top talent because all that talent goes through Barrett.
I can't see USC winning the tournament
They have the talent to beat any team in the conference, but it takes depth to win three games in three days and that’s USC’s biggest problem. I guess anything can happen, but this tournament sets up poorly for the Trojans IMO.
The three guys DFWTrojan mentioned. . . .
. . . .are ’SC’s depth. They sure as hell don’t start simultaneously or regularly. Add in Kid Euro and that’s 4 cats off our bench. How much bench do we need IYHO?

There's four bodies
but Hackett and Gibson are still playing too many minutes, especially Hackett. College basketball is a guard oriented game and it will be very, very tough for Hackett to play as many minutes as he does for three games in three days. Also, your defensive philosophy funnels opposing players to Gibson, where he can block shots and other players can look to get into passing lanes. If Gibson begins to wear down, your defense will be vulnerable and I can’t see Gibson not wearing down with three games in three days. Also, despite your available bodies, Floyd has shown in recent years that he will not always maximize his bench and your starters may end playing big minutes anyways. Yeah, you’ve got a couple more guys available on the bench, but will Floyd use them and can either spell Hackett and Gibson?

Rye I see your point on not playing bench, it's like he completely forgets that there is one.
It is asd but funny to watch coach during the game, dude is so focus on floor action I really think he forgets about bench.
