Forcier bugs out of ucla...[UPDATED, he is now staying]

This is not at all surprising...

Forcier to transfer

After balking at a request to change positions to receiver, backup quarterback Chris Forcier was granted his release to transfer to another school.

He was in the Midwest visiting schools this week.

"He's been given his release and he's exploring other options," UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel said. "We obviously wish Chris well and want him to be successful."

Now the funny thing is that just a couple of weeks ago Neuheisel said this about Forcier...

"Chris Forcier is a unbelievably talented athlete but he's got to grasp the offense and understand the leadership role of the position if he's going to be a guy we can count on for a regular basis."

Wait...you mean the great Norm Chow can't make simple enough for this talented kid to grasp it? Rumor has it is that he couldn't grasp it and with bunch of QB's coming in or already on the roster Forcier saw the writing on the wall, didn't want to fight for it and decided to move on.

The whole way that Neuheisel is running the QB selection seems to be missing the one thing that brings out the best in everyone...

COMPETITION

Craft took one on the chin for the team last year and he is looking like the 3rd option in spring ball.

UCLA coach Rick Neuheisel had a conference call today to preview spring practice, and he said Kevin Prince and Richard Brehaut would get most of the reps early in practice.

"The plan is to give our young kids early repititions, just to see if we hav ea bright, young star on the horizon."

Neuheisel said it would be wrong to say returning starter Kevin Craft would not be given a chance to retain the starting spot.

Doesn't look like he is getting much of a chance to me.

So much for trying to be like USC.

If Slick Rick culls out a few more he won't have to worry about the oversignings from this years recruiting class.

Neuheisel actually provided Forcier every chance to compete

but he could never pick up on the defense. He finally got a hold of the offense, but was making poor read after poor read in practice. He also had little interest in staying in the pocket. As soon as he felt a whiff of pressure he used his legs and tried to make something out of it on the run. Forcier got his chance to compete, but couldn’t make it work. He transferred and there’s nothing wrong with it.

I actually think that this situation is similar to what’s been going on at SC and I like it. Forcier was given the chance to compete and when he lost out he looked to move somewhere he could play. It’s similar to how Moody transferred from SC. Neither could really break through so they moved on.

I see where you are going

but I just don’t think he was all that talented. I mean he couldn’t beat out Craft and he had an awful year yet RN built him up as something better than avg.

the other rumor floating around is that RN made a deal with Prince to keep him from going on his LDS mission essentially forcing CF’s hand.

If that is true it fits the pattern.

Sleeping Beauty

When reports say how difficult it was for Forcier to skip his afternoon naps and instead study his playbook, reads and become a decent QB then you get a much fuller picture of why he could not beat out Kevin Craft for the starting job. If UCLA is going to be competitive in the Pac – 10 and be relevant against USC and the other 8 schools it’s going to take someone with more determination and poise than what Forcier showed.

And of course Neuheisel sold the kid as above average, what – he’s going to say the kid’s horrible? That may have been Dorrell’s way but it’s not Neuheisel’s way to just throw a kid under the bus.

Not today Seanny

as you can see from the front page we have bigger fish to fry.

We can debate this another time

but the truth will set you free……….

The situation with Moody is ENTIRELY different

Moody was one of the best RB’s in practice, camp, and on the field. He didn’t transfer because he couldn’t cut it. He didn’t transfer because he wasn’t “in the game”. He transferred because he wasn’t “guaranteed” the starting job. Like a basketball player who approached Coach Tim Floyd, who will go unnammed.

Sorry rye, the similarity you espoused isn’t there. And it isn’t gonna be there if you use Moody as your example. Think of another one. (I can)

DOH'N strikes again.

Now he’s not transferring. Sweet. Hopefully we can get him at WR and he can be a slash style player like Kordell Steward or Drew Bennett.

I haven't had the time to check out his stats

Is he really all that? (I ask, because I seriously don’t know a thing about him)

I hate to see players transfer out for any reason, unless of course if they’re detriment to themselves or the team. I’m happy for Ucla sports that he’s staying. Good on Coach Neu for convincing the young man to stay and follow through on his scholarship and commitment.

He sure seemed to be all that

when Dorrell landed him two years ago. The problem is all we saw was a really, really fast kid (4.4 40 times) under center. No real ability to read a defense and a decent arm. The fact he couldn’t displace Kevin Craft should speak volumes. There were numerous reports about his inability/ unwillingness to put in the time learn the playbook.
