So after the tough loss on Thursday to Texas USC travels to Alanta to play Georgia Tech.
I was pleasantly surprised that SC was able to keep it close against Texas for most of the game. The team showed some grit. Unfortunately, Foul trouble and simply running out of gas doomed SC in the final five minute of the game in Austin.
SC still has issues with both turnovers and shooting...both from the line and from the floor. Because the shooting is is sub-par it would be nice to see the team drive the ball a little bit more but if they do that can they rebound the ball effectively? That could kill us in transition...
That is why depth is so important.
It also appears that the team has responded well to Kevin O'Neill. Hopefully O'Neill has calmed his temper from the past stories that we heard about...particularly when he was at Arizona.
SC needs to get right back into it and they have their work cut out for them as the Yellowjackets are another tough opponent...
Georgia Tech is 5-1 and is coming off a 74-61 win vs. Siena on Dec. 2. Forward Gani Lawal leads Georgia Tech with an average of 15.0 points and 11.0 rebounds. The Trojans and Yellow Jackets have met twice before with USC winning 76-57 last year at the Galen Center and falling in an NCAA second-round game 79-78 on March 21, 1992.
I think we can all agree that this years game will be quite different than the team that beat GT at Galen last year. GT has a load of depth similar to that of Texas. Expect them to rotate a fair amount tonight to take advantage of fresh legs. SC needs to control the tempo as best they can to try and sty fresh...not going to be an easy task.
SC continues to be a poor road team losing their last six games. Part of that is depth, but mostly it is because of experience.
I will put the game thread up during the football game. I doubt I will see any of the basketball game until the second half. It should be fun trying to write the football post game thread while trying to run the basketball thread.
A great day for USC athletics!!
