GameDay Open Thread USC vs. Arizona

Arizona Wildcats at USC Trojans, Dec 5, 2009 12:30 PM PST

Usc_medium

So, here we go...The final game.

Hopefully SC will feed off the emotion of the end of the ucla game and leave no doubt against a pretty good Arizona team. SC needs to stop Arizona's running game. The front seven need to keep the pressure on Foles and not let him get comfortable in the pocket.

Matt Barkley needs to show some progress today. He has to limit poor throws and he must not turn the ball over. I would like to see the running game take off today so that the pressure is off of Barkley to make plays...especially if he is struggling.

I expect this one to be pretty close...

So, Join us here. Leave your comments, questions and rants here!

FIGHT ON!

Yeah, we're going to have to get in sync pretty fast

But in all, not the worst start for the defense given the short fields to begin with, and the fact that they needed to convert a fourth down to get that TD

I Just Don 't Get It

We end Ucla game on a bomb, that get them by surprise, but we start this game with conservative play calling. The result is receiver bobbling the ball INt, F___ the OC calling period.

28---7 2nd & 11 Barkley to Williams, so please Bru-Babes call time out again.

by so.cal.native1952 on Dec 5, 2009 12:59 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Why do the announcers think

that defensive players are concerned about how they might get tackled?

by Boy Howdy on Dec 5, 2009 1:01 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Because the both of them are JERKS and I am glad James is sick.

bates my be limited by PC. or by what he know barkley can or can’t do.

by xgenx on Dec 5, 2009 1:10 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

different

arizona always plays us tough.
even in the championship years

no huddle- nice move, somewhat gutsy with freshman qb.
barkley not looking off secondary though.

by xgenx on Dec 5, 2009 1:06 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

stopped em

man was open, where is the safety help?
no pass rush, no stunts? are we that worried about draws
or qb running?

by xgenx on Dec 5, 2009 1:13 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Our offense is dull and Barkley looks like he needs to sit down.

by warchild13 on Dec 5, 2009 1:15 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

BRADFORD!!

by warchild13 on Dec 5, 2009 1:19 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

That....

… worked out a lot better than I thought it was going to.

by Boy Howdy on Dec 5, 2009 1:20 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Man

Havili’s such a unique weapon.

by Boy Howdy on Dec 5, 2009 1:21 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Wow

That mascot is fairly terrifying

by Boy Howdy on Dec 5, 2009 1:22 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Very nice drive

Don’t mind going a little run heavy early on, with O’Dowd back and all. Wish we’d been doing that for the first two posessions.

by Boy Howdy on Dec 5, 2009 1:25 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

nice pass- barkley looks around and reads secondary. good job.

these are things that have to be worked on everyday all season long

but i am still worried- team needs to wake up- no fire

by xgenx on Dec 5, 2009 1:28 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

6-0 Start?

Really? I understood in the graphic that it was Barkley with the 6-0 start. Apparently the announcers didn’t.

by Boy Howdy on Dec 5, 2009 1:44 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Nice INT

Capitalizing on a really awful decision by the QB

by Boy Howdy on Dec 5, 2009 1:54 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I have an idea....

…how about we let Jeremy Bates take the afternoon off to go Christmas shopping and give the OC reigns to, um…i don’t know….pick a fan out of the stands.

Let’s see more of Havili, more Bradford, more tight ends.

by KellyStephen on Dec 5, 2009 2:08 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Oh good, McKnight up the middle for 2

Glad to see we made the most of our halftime.

by Boy Howdy on Dec 5, 2009 2:24 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Boy, looks like I’ve been missing a doozy.

by DC Trojan on Dec 5, 2009 2:24 PM PST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

I might get boo-ed but the way McKnight has played this season I hope he comes back.
But more BRADFORD!

by warchild13 on Dec 5, 2009 2:24 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Why get boo’d? Bradford has totally outplayed McKnight this year

by KellyStephen on Dec 5, 2009 2:26 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I'd love to have McKnight back

And I’d love to see him used in space and to the outside. Up the middle is fine if our OL opens up big enough holes for him to make the most of his speed, but until then, run Bradford up the gut.

by Boy Howdy on Dec 5, 2009 2:27 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Bradford is a man….see above!

by KellyStephen on Dec 5, 2009 2:26 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

What the . . .

by warchild13 on Dec 5, 2009 2:33 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

If we're gonna throw the ball

I’d really like to get about 5 yards with the catch, at least, and not rely on YAC to get anything.

by Boy Howdy on Dec 5, 2009 2:43 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

That said

Not much Barkley can do about the dropsies.

by Boy Howdy on Dec 5, 2009 2:44 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Hmmm…give it to Bradford! Imagine the results you might see!

Bates, about time you started reading this blog!

by KellyStephen on Dec 5, 2009 2:54 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Speaking of Bates he probably knew when he took the job that he would be leaving.

Is only on sidelines to collect large check and I hope he chokes on it.

28---7 2nd & 11 Barkley to Williams, so please Bru-Babes call time out again.

We'll see...

Pete has a lot to think about…

by Paragon SC on Dec 5, 2009 3:02 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

I still think the big need is a strength and conditioning coach. We keep getting pushed all over the field. Good technique but no explosiveness or endurance.

by warchild13 on Dec 5, 2009 3:05 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Nice 3 and out – I’ll take the positives where we can

by DC Trojan on Dec 5, 2009 3:10 PM PST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

I’m starting to associate “Jared” with jihad and not in a good way.

by DC Trojan on Dec 5, 2009 3:12 PM PST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

Holy shit did Barkely just check down and through the short productive pass?

by DC Trojan on Dec 5, 2009 3:14 PM PST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

Throw, dammit, not through…

by DC Trojan on Dec 5, 2009 3:14 PM PST via mobile up reply actions   0 recs

Nice screen there. Why not just keep working on what we can get?

by DC Trojan on Dec 5, 2009 3:15 PM PST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

Nice methodical drive so far.

by DC Trojan on Dec 5, 2009 3:17 PM PST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

That was worth trying with McCoy

by DC Trojan on Dec 5, 2009 3:18 PM PST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

Sweet fancy Moses, of all the times for a “holding” call.

by DC Trojan on Dec 5, 2009 3:19 PM PST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

Oh crap

Impersonating a family member to gain access to a secured hospital area. That one’s going on The List â„¢

The conservative play call totally not a surprise for us, sir.

by DC Trojan on Dec 5, 2009 3:21 PM PST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

Seagulls well known for following garbage, didn’t know that extended to playcalling…

Finally Mays gets a kill shot at the right time

by DC Trojan on Dec 5, 2009 3:25 PM PST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

Damnation too much room in the secondary

by DC Trojan on Dec 5, 2009 3:26 PM PST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

But I like seeing an aggressive blitz on third and long. Feels like the Old Pete.

I’ll take giving up a conversion deep in their territory if they manage to convert.

by Boy Howdy on Dec 5, 2009 3:27 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Worth a shot

by DC Trojan on Dec 5, 2009 3:29 PM PST via mobile up reply actions   0 recs

Our defensive pass rushers need Icy hot on their underarms

28---7 2nd & 11 Barkley to Williams, so please Bru-Babes call time out again.

I'm pretty sure most people who haven't played QB

Still understand that it’s hard to throw something forward when you’re falling backwards. You don’t need to look over your shoulder for the Magician’s Guild for explaining that one.

by Boy Howdy on Dec 5, 2009 3:30 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Getting worried about the clock here – it’s not like SC can pile on quick points against this defense

Damnation. But you know what? Counting on interference calls is not going to get you a dn thing when it’s this close…

by DC Trojan on Dec 5, 2009 3:38 PM PST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

Thats it Failed maybe Scoggins will b eat out Barkley because he truly sucks

We should refuse a bowl bid . . .

by warchild13 on Dec 5, 2009 3:40 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Oh, now Stoops is just being cruel, making SC throw a Hail Mary.

by DC Trojan on Dec 5, 2009 3:45 PM PST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

Ends it with a sack . . .
What a disappointing season

by warchild13 on Dec 5, 2009 3:46 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I can’t think of a more fitting end to this season, really.

by DC Trojan on Dec 5, 2009 3:47 PM PST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

Not happy about it, but can’t say I wasn’t expecting it

by Boy Howdy on Dec 5, 2009 3:48 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

A friend had a spare ticket and tried to get me to fly out for the game… I declined, politely.

This is how it ends
This is how it ends
This is how it ends
Not with a bang
But with a whimper

by DC Trojan on Dec 5, 2009 3:50 PM PST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

Dammit, if I’m going to be pretentious I might as well get it right:

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

by DC Trojan on Dec 5, 2009 3:56 PM PST via mobile up reply actions   0 recs

Can't blame PC's D

His defense only gave up 7 in the 2nd half
I don’t care who’s back on the offense next week, it won’t make a big difference.

by TrojanInAtlanta on Dec 5, 2009 3:54 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Damn, Alabama’s putting some points on Florida.

by DC Trojan on Dec 5, 2009 3:58 PM PST via mobile reply actions   0 recs

Perhaps

Given florida’s shitty schedule, its hard to know how good it really is.

PS, Tough loss today. I was hoping you guys would make Stoops cry.

If ya can't get your Dick Enright, get your Dick Harter!
