Some interesting Fun Facts on USC's 2009 season
I took these all from RipsIt...
- With Saturday's Emerald Bowl win over Boston College, the Trojans have now won 16 consecutive nonconference games.
- The Trojans flew a whopping 13,080 roundtrip air miles, equivalent to 52 percent of the way around the world at the equator. That stunning total was up 42 percent from last season's 9,196 air miles.
- Following its 24-13 win on Saturday night, USC now owns a 140-35-4 all-time record in night games (kickoff after 5 p.m.). That's an .800 winning percentage under the lights for the Trojans.
Check out some notable individual and team statistics from the 2009 season:
- Wideout Damian Williams had 1,010 receiving yards and six receiving touchdowns.
- Matt Barkley went 211-for-352 (60 percent) for 2,735 yards, with 15 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
- Tailbacks Allen Bradford and Joe McKnight tied for the team lead with eight touchdowns.
- Safety Will Harris had a team-high four interceptions.
- Kicker Jordan Congdon was USC's leading scorer with 77 points with 12 field goals and a perfect 41-for-41 mark on PATs.
- Damian Williams averaged a team-best 113.8 all-purpose yards per game.
- Safety Taylor Mays led the team with 96 tackles.
- Defensive ends Nick Perry and Everson Griffen tied for the team lead with eight sacks apiece.
- Linebacker Michael Morgan had a squad-best 13 tackles for loss.
- The Trojans' turnover margin wound up at 0 for the season.
- USC had 35 sacks.

I guess I’m going to have to stop being rude about Taylor Mays taking a bad angle if he was the leading tackler. It does rather underline the growing pains of the linebackers.
You can still be rude
Taylor Mays got a bunch of tackles this year because we had tailbacks running through our secondary. His number are far more indicative of the front 7. An incredibly overrated player, especially when you consider most of his “big hits” were late and often flagged for 15 yards.

Barkley's NCAA QB rating would be 131.38
If he was in the NFL, it would equate to 82.04
I got these computations here.
Not bad, could he have done better? Sure, any quarterback wouldn’t say they were satisfied with their season, nor would any fan of said quarterback. Considering he’s only a freshman- he did better than just alright. He’ll be a monster and I think his ceiling is a lot higher than Luck. When Toby leaves, let’s see what Luck accomplishes. (Stanford had the run to set up the pass, and what a runner they had!)

Another interesting one
Josh Pinkard led the team in takeaways including assists, I think. I’m not going to spend the time to check, but Josh had approximately 3 picks, 2 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries. All while playing out of position at corner, rather than safety.
Can we hire that high school coach who plays the math and never kicks? Take Big Balls Pete to a whole new level?
At USC we're not snobs, we're just better than you.
One more factoid
to drive my hidden agenda:
PacX Scoring Defense – USC #1
PacX Scoring Offense – USC #6
the offseason area of focus for PC is obvious. the defense is fixable with healthy players and fresh bodies.
Looking at other QB ratings in the Pac 10 for 2009
Masoli (Jr) 133.7 – Oregon
Foles (So) 132.24 – Arizona
Prince (20 yr. old Fr) 114.24 – Ucla
Luck (Fr) 143.47 – Stanford
(the above named guys still have one game left- can go up or down)
Canfield (Sr) 141.94 – Oregon State
Riley (Jr) 128.75 – California
Luck and Canfield held their own pretty good this year. With one a senior and one- a QB whose team had an outstanding/head-and-shoulders-above-the-rest RB this season, it’s no wonder they had such good stats.
Barkley being a true freshman even had a better QB rating than everyone else’s favorite Pac 10 QB Jake Locker of UDub. Locker’s rating: 129.75. . . .and he’s a Jr playing in a QB guru’s system?

Andrew Luck is good!
I really think that I would trade MB7 for him. Those two are going to have some epic duals.
Gaffney wanted to come to USC but PC told him he would be playing FB, same as Gerhardt. Hmmm.

For the love of all things Trojan. . . .

The Stanford fullback is a monster too!
He was Toby’s enforcer, but after getting through his wall, Toby shed a good 2 – 4 tacklers before being ganged up on. No one on Stanford can do that. If Luck is forced to go vertical, I don’t think his game will give him the rating he had this year. Most of his passes were screens and quick slants. Money throws for sure.
Barkley has got to learn to look down his reads, not lock on his go-to, and for gosh-sakes- stop throwing into traffic. That catch by DWill was all-world! And. . . .our WR’s have got to hold on to the damn ball and catch the zippin’ pass coming their way.
Barkley in traffic = not good. Barkley when he hits the numbers = got to be caught. His WR’s left a lot of yardage on the field this season, in my estimation.
