Garrett Tees off on the football team
Color me intrigued...
USC athletic director Mike Garrett appeared on "The Petros & Money Show" this afternoon on KLAC/570 and expressed his disappointment in the football team’s 8-4 record.
"I don’t think we played very well," Garrett said. "I was very dismayed by our whole season. I don’t think we had one good game. I think we sloppily won some and sloppily lost four, and it was not a picture-perfect kind of a season. … We were very inconclusive the whole year, so (a) very painful year."
Here are more highlights from the interview:
(on whether the rest of the Pac-10 caught up to USC)
"I thought the conference improved, but I thought it was more us going down to the conference. … That does not mean the conference is not good, because I think our conference is comparable to the SEC and certainly better than the Big 12 or Big Ten."
(on his expectations entering the season)
"I liked our talent. I thought we had more depth than we ever had before. I think what we probably lacked was experience, particularly at quarterback. I think if (Mark) Sanchez came back, the year would have been 30 or 40 percent different. But having the young quarterback (freshman Matt Barkley) with the youth that we had, I think it was a little more than we could have bared. I would not have thought that, but as it panned out, I think I’m absolutely right."
Has he been hanging out over the message boards with all the other WLP's?
Looks like his expectations are little too high...
Whatever.
This from the guy who DID NOT keep Guillory away from the basketball program...amongst his other great personnel moves...
He is lucky to have Pete Carroll. He backed into that one...talk about dumb fucking luck.
He can't leave fast enough...

I can’t believe MG finally game an interview. Did he discuss Timmy at all? Probably not with the investigation ongoing. I must say that I agree with almost everything he says above. He may understand football well, but he certainly doesn’t understand high level sports administration. I still say fire him. But, I respect his candor about the football year. No sunshine pumping, which is kind of refreshing. His football analysis, at least, is fairly accurate.
Maybe he could give the team a motivational speech or something. He’s still got one more Heisman than any of the players have!
Wonder if PC feels thrown under the bus
a la Robinson, Gillespie, and PC’s good friend, Timmy. Really curious about the MG/PC relationship. Do they talk at all?
MIke Garrett: He is that Boil that just will not go away!
I remember this ASS when he would try and run Bibbys program, like the jerk knows anything about BB. I hope whoever takes Samples place gives the guy a good punt out of the door, of course it will mean no more JerkTros PapaDickus.

free speech
its still somewhat a free country- idiots have as much a right to talk as anybody else.
we should encourage him to express his opinion, and agree with everything he says.
“yep mike – your right”- please say it again.
if we give Garrett all the rope he wants, he’ll hang himself eventually
as long as he doesn’t try to be Al Davis and actually try to run the team, let him yak away.
Carroll Brushes Aside MG's Comments

Seems that MG is trying to send a message. Although, I would assume that MG and PC have an annual, post-season evaluation meeting. Or, does MG only mail PC a letter via courier delivery.
Holy hell, that costs money! Both the site and letting someone go.
I think a subtle campaign of persuasion is in order…
“Wouldn’t be nice to be able to golf with alumni without having them bitch at you?”
“Commuting to SC really must be a drag these days.”
“You can say whatever you want about SC sports when you aren’t responsible for them.”
“Everyone already knows you signed off on Mayo, so you’re not getting off the hook by staying.”
“At least you won’t have anonymous internet commenters teeing off on you…”
It’s probably best that we not mention the prospect of spending more time at home though, that’s rarely an incentive.
