Rick Neuheisel's timeout as provocation? Wow. I don't see it. Every good coach in America would have called timeout. It's Coaching 101.
Case closed: Neuheisel timeout vs. Carroll bomb
Miller is right. Every good coach in America would call a time out...It is coaching 101.
But...
Part II of Coaching 101 is that every good coach would read that taking the timeout is a signal to the other team to play on...
Pete Carroll did just that...Some just didn't like the result.
Oh well!
Class in sports is for suckers!

He's half right
Rick called a timeout – good for him. No problem. Then Pete had to call a play, and that’s what he did. Apparently, the play he called wasn’t within the arbitrary definition of etiquette defined individually by bloggers and media “experts”, so they pontificate endlessly about what he “should” have done instead.
Either go find your own team to coach so you can do it politely according to your specific rules of etiquette, write a book defining this mystical set of etiquette so we can all agree to the same set of rules, or just shut the f*** up about it.

But if we all agreed....
What could we possibly argue endlessly about?!? It’s much more fun this way!
Good point.
Seems like I’ve had that correction made to me before. Here at CC it’s all in good fun. Guess I’m being overly sensitive about the freaks who take this kind of thing a little too seriously.
Meh...
There’s always those select few that live or die with sports. My philosophy is that if the worst thing to happen to you on a given day is that your favorite team lost then you can consider yourself lucky.

Well stated
I consider it a luxury that my life is so great that I can actually worry such trivial things.
Please..
Let’s not spark one of those up…

What about Global Warming?
Football is contributing to it! Ban football NOW!!!!!!!!
¡Fusílenlo, después veriguamos! - Pancho Villa
Ridiculous!
If anything, football is responsible for the wars in Iraq, and Afghanistan! It’s baseball’s fault for global warming.
Baseball is also largely responsible for our sedentary lifestyle
You go to the ballpark, and you pretty much just stand around or sit around for hours.
The fans who go to watch the games do even less.
No one could be doing less than those BN clowns
Now we know who’s really responsible for Global Warming and the Economic Crisis, and the Oil Crisis, and pollution, and and bad breath.

Why do you troll here?
Don’t you have a basketball team to cry about or something?
Fight On! Beat the Wolverines!

I must say Paragon, you exercised extreme patience with that racist clown.

Yeah Trolls!!
When I think class, I think bruins. Firing turning on Dorrell almost immediately after he was hired — why? excess class (he was an alum too!). Trying to start a fight because you were so sad that you lost? Class! What about those Bruin fans who put that guys eye out at the Rose Bowl at last years game — did they do it with class? Making racist comments about the people who live around USC? Class!!!! Wishing you had never fired Bob Toledo — Priceless.
Aus has proven that physical stats are secondary....
It’s all about football smarts, instinct, and guts. Aus is football dumb. Hopefully, Prater is football smart. He must be to have those stats.
Wow Ucla and the rest of the media that didn't like it is lucky I was not the coach.
Not only would I have gone for the bomb, there would have been an on sides kick to boot to score again. This is 2009 and anything goes so put your heads in your lapps BNers and media crybabies, and prepare for a crash landing.

Miller is Ridiculous
I don’t think he even watched the game. 95% of the time in that situation, the opposing coach concedes and lets the clock run out. Neuweasel refused to concede. With his TOs, he would have gotten the ball back with 40 secs left. But, Neuweasel’s only real chance was to force a TO. So, he shows up PC with the TO, enticing PC to actually run a play.
Actually, Neuweasel’s play could have worked and he would have looked like a genius. The fatal mistake was that his secondary was not ready for a play and had already conceded. If MB7 had been sacked and fumbled or picked, PC would have never lived it down.
Good coaching, bad execution for Neuweasel. Good coaching, good execution for PC.
I don't think Pete was completely right...
…but if he ever had incentive to do it, it was Saturday when the Bruins called a timeout. This game was OVER, that’s what people seem to overlook here. Their offense had generated 7 points the entire game. If we punt to them, they’d have about 80 yards to go with no timeouts needing TWO TDs. Pete was doing the right thing kneeling down. If it were a 14-7 game, I would totally understand neuheisel calling the TOs. Therefore the timeout came across as a game staller, a “I’m holding you here as long as I can” notion. “I still want to play,” and play we did. Line up and defend it like we defended Stanford’s 2-Pt Conversion.
"I was just letting the shots fly. You know, I don't leave any bullets in the chamber."
"Everything negative- pressure, challenges- is all an opportunity for me to rise."

Brilliant Neuweasel Call.....that backfired?
I kind of agree. The safest play for PC was to continue kneeling and burn TOs. Or, run conservatively and try to get a 1st down. fU¢LAs ONLY real chance was to entice USC to run some real plays and pray for a turnover. And, it worked!!! They actually got the QB to drop back and put the ball in the air.
This was the BEST scenario for Neuweasel. He just forgot to tell his secondary to never quit. Bad execution on fU¢LA. Had fU¢LA made a play for a turnover, CRN would be called a mastermind this week.
It has been said that Prader is committing USC thats 2 since the game I guess they liked it.
