Sounds similar to Malaluga's punishment

When he punched that guy in the face. It wasn’t during a game, and he was intoxicated, but he could have seriously injured the guy he punched. Pete Carroll benched him for one half. I don’t think we are much better than the Gators on this one.

Meyer and Carroll are player’s coaches.

Definitely not...

After watching the replays, Spikes goes out of his way to try and jam his finger into the RB’s eye. That could have caused some serious damage, and even ended his career. Urban Meyer should have suspended him for AT LEAST the entire game, if not way more. That type of behavior is inexcusable no matter who you play for.

Punching someone can cause serious damage and even death

Rey should have been suspended for more than 1 half of a football game. In my opinion Pete handled the situation very loosely. I agree with you that Spikes should be punished for more time than he was, but I’m sticking with my point that Rey was let off too easily by our own coach for a similar transgression.

Couldn't agree more...

Assault is a crime in California, and if he had caused injury, it would have been upgraded to a felony. As a world class athlete who is constantly in the national spotlight, I am very surprised that Rey got a slap on the wrist for what he did as well. It’s pretty sad that in situations like this, winning is held to a higher standard than your player’s morals.

He did cause injury

The man had a bloody nose and a cut lip.

Wow...

And Plaxico got what..2 years for shooting HIMSELF in the leg?

by DannyJay01 on Nov 4, 2009 11:17 AM PST reply actions

Well, Plaxico got the 2 yrs for carrying an illegal firearm into a public place

A firearm which had a bullet in the chamber, was not in a holster and had the safety off. Given that the gun discharged in a crowded venue, he’s fortunate that the only person wounded was himself.

New York has notoriously stringent gun laws. Burress thought he was above the law. I’m glad the D.A.’s office thought otherwise.
