ESPN Ivan Maisel: USC a Phony and a Fraud
"Meet the USC Trojans, phony as an ID in a 20-year-old's wallet." So says Mr. Maisel, and it gets better from there as he gleefully dances on the Trojans' grave.

So
what does that make Ohio St and Notre Dame?
keep your head up
Go Ducks!
Typical
USC loses and we’re painted as frauds so Oregon gets just a tiny little bump in the BCS. Name an SEC or any other team that would have beaten the Ducks at home on Halloween. Right.
Typical SEC honk, the statement should be: Maisel a Phony and a Fraud

Lazy Sportswriters Are Frauds
After next week, USC will have played 6 of 9 games on the ROAD. Including games at 4 RANKED TEAMS on the road. Has anyone in the country done that?
Sagarin has our strength of schedule at #5, thus far. Interesting, only 4 of Sagarin’s top 20 teams have top 10 schedules, and three of them are PacX (Va Tech, USC, Oregon, and Zona).
Per Sagarin, various strength of schedules thus far are: Texas (42), Bama (36), BSU (81), Cinci (75), and TCU (46).
6 of our first 9 on the road! 4 road games against ranked teams. Whose the fraud? The lazy sportswriter, Ivan Maisel!
Who built them up?
ESPN and their ilk are like the English sporting press – build a team up beyond the point of reason, then punish them if they fuck up.
I’m not saying for a second that SC hasn’t played to the cheap seats, not at all. But no-one held a gun to the heads of people like Ivan Maisel and made them write that SC was good, no-one from SC gave themselves presumptive high rankings in pre-season polls, or any of that nonsense.
So you want to write about how SC sucked on Saturday, Mr Maisel? Knock yourself out, there’s a lot of material to work with. But if you want to accuse a bunch of college students of being fakes and try to pretend that you and your colleagues weren’t complicit in the myth – and run down Oregon in the process – well then as my granny used to say, Hell mend you.
Hear hear!
“try to pretend that you and your colleagues weren’t complicit in the myth – and run down Oregon in the process – well then as my granny used to say, Hell mend you.”
Too bad for the Ducks, they seem unbeatable, but the “Eastern Syndicate” has already decided they don’t belong.
