The score -- and the 27-0 tally in the fourth quarter -- didn't show it, but the Trojans continued to fight even when the game became unrealistically out of reach. Coaches and players were passionately encouraging each other on the sidelines, especially when the mountain got steeper to climb in the second half. Pleas of "keep fighting!" and "bring your heart!" rang on the sideline throughout the game. And it was that never-say-die attitude and unwillingness to relent that Carroll lauded in the locker room after the loss.
He's kidding right? What game was this guy watching???

It didn't look good out there in the 4th, but I don't feel anybody quit.
I do feel that the team was distracted by their own personal thoughts, they really were not Focused anymore. My question is do the coaches have the ability to help these kids along, I mean it is what they are overpaid for not playing pick-up basketball games and such.

A Different Locker Room Approach:
Coach USC Dude would say:
You played like a team that doesn’t understand the fundamentals, you played like a team that doesn’t care about the uniform you wear. Let’s cut through the crap: Play like
Trojans or get the hell out. I’d rather lose out with men who have Trojan hearts than try to win with the team we saw today.
Propoganda!
Seriously, I laughed my ass off when I read Ben’s piece. I really wonder what the deal is there. Does PC or some AD PR person tell Ben what to write? Does Ben actually come up with that drivel himself? He might have a future career penning Harlequin romance novels with that writing style.
The 4th quarter
Watching the defense in the 4th quarter, I would say quite the opposite about them – it looked like they were trying to coast to the end and just hope that the clock would run out. Not that they made too many big plays throughout the game, but watching them at the end, it was obvious to tell they were resigned to losing. At the same time, Stanford ran dominantely all day, so who’s to say that SC should have been able to stop them in the 4th? Even Pete said after the game that what they were doing was so basic, he was just waiting for when our defense would “get it” and be able to stop it. What does that say about the D? I think it says we’ve got a lot of work in the off season to get this defense back to the standards of a PC coached defense for next year.

They might have done it but that pic-six was a dagger to the heart of an already miserable defensive effort. You can’t turn the ball over four times and expect anything different from what we saw yesterday.

I don't remember the exact quote
But it was something to that effect. It was in the post game interview on 710 ESPN and he said basically something to the effect of “what they were doing was so simple, and we prepared for it all week….and I couldn’t believe we weren’t getting it done.” He tried to nuance it by saying they did a few different things w/ their scheme and that SC adjusted, but the D just couldn’t get it done – even though they knew it was coming the whole time.
If thats the case then who is truly running the asylum!

Rocky The Latte Boy and Johnny the Schlepper
The quality of the assistants has deteriorated since 2005, and hit rock bottom this year with a bunch of NFL retreads and yes men like Rocky the Latte Boy and Johnny the Schlepper.
Pete can’t delegate to these guys and is trying to coach offense, defense and special teams. It’s time for PC to raid someone else’s "hot " coaching staff. People are banging on PC today for his outside interests and charity work; I think that’s wrong but if he wants to be a CEO he’s going to have to bring in a bunch of Vice-Presidents that can deliver the goods.
Losing is acceptable when you lose with honor, and yesterdays loss was dishonorable. Good intentions are not going to get it done, no matter how they spin it. Let the axe fall where it may.

Well put
I respect the way that Seto has worked his way up from the bottom, but he is just not getting it done. As far as the offense, I remember the SJSU game people asked Bates if they were keeping it vanilla so as not to tip their hand against Ohio State, he said no, they were just running the offense. Know what? He wan’t lying.

not Malcomsen’s Baghdad Bob impression
We all thought that Bates was being coy...
but, he wasn’t be coy. He doesn’t have that in his personality arsenal. He was being straight up. That REALLY was the offense. Our first warning sign, in retrospect.
Wow I forgot all about that game I guess we are doing pretty good considering.
