Stan Hasiak takes an "indefinite leave of absence" from ucla
Rivalry aside it is never a good thing to hear that a student has trouble adjusting to the next phase of life...
Hasiak, who has appeared in four games this season, has had a number of anger issues on the practice field, particularly early in the season. He was involved in a handful of near fights with teammates during live scrimmages. He appeared in the first two games but was benched for the Kansas State game and did not play in the next two games.
Hasiak is back in Los Angeles but could not be reached for comment.
UCLA coaches considered Hasiak a key player in rebuilding the offensive line. He was ranked the fourth-best guard nationally by Rivals.com as a senior at Kapolei (Ha.) High. He was recruited by USC and visited Michigan and California before committing to UCLA.
USC wanted Hasiak, but it was the hope of early playing time that swayed his decision to commit to the bruins.
We all know that the O line is the TOUGHEST group of players to develop. Very few come in and make an instant impact. There is always some growing to do as the unit gels. This doesn't hurt ucla as some might think unless someone goes down to injury. They have been doing it without Hasiak the past few weeks. We can all see it is tough for some players to make the adjustment.
If Hasiak gets his head on straight he could be a real gamer for the bruins down the road. But even with his lack of production on the field this is still a setback for ucla because he was seen a major cog in the development in their O line and that is the biggest issue at ucla. I don't care what QB Norm Chow is trying to develop...it is tough to make any progress when you are constantly running for your life or getting beat up in the pocket.
I hope the kid works things out...

Tough one to figure out
he was given the opportunity to compete and wasn’t able to make it as a starter, hardly surprising given that he is a freshamn. Although we are starting one other true freshman on the line (Sua-Filo) and started another last year (Baca) it’s just hard for a freshman to win a starting position on the line. Still, he was a backup and played a fair amount, and with injuries a fact of life for OL he would have had a good chance at starting at some point.
I haven’t heard anything about him being bent out of shape about the program, although I’m sure he was disappointed about not being a starter. I hope that he gets it together, whatever his issues are.

Hard to figure from the start
The guy was all over the map. I think he wanted to come to USC, then committed to Cal then UCLA and did a lot of talking along the way.

It doesn't matter what a kid does in
Please don't tell me what to do or think, what I might say is a personal opinion.

High School and he is Morman should have gone to a school where he would have his faith behind him.
He is going on his mission after this year and wanted to play his first, so going to a non-faith school was a mistake. Personally I have seen this happen first hand with a couple of friends of mine who tried to play tennis at BYU. Both played high on team but left after one year, they said they just didn’t fit in one was Catholic and one Jewish.

So?
There’s enough of them there for the kid to have a support group.
I was a member of the USC TMB one of the most sinful campus organizations around and there were still people in it who were LDS and if you were LDS and didn’t want to participate in certain extracurricular activities there was a wide enough support group to help you out.

"Most Sinful"
Please provide empirical evidence. I thought my fraternity was rather sinful. Boy, were those days fun.

I understand what you are saying Max but we really can't see this kids views in his life.
The problem with most kids today is that they have bought into the Drama Queen Theory of todays young , more less acting like E- Hollywood than like a young man.

Update...
Hasiak returned to practice, and will be eased back into the rotation. He won’t be traveling to Washington State however. It’s good to see that he somewhat got his bearings back. Here’s hoping that he can maintain some stability, and keep those demons away.
