Which is more disappointing, two-loss USC or 0-5 in the Pac-10 UCLA?
Think we have it bad???

Very good point.
I just took a look at the clowns over at Bruins Nation and was surprised to see them preaching that it was time to rally behind their team.
These are the same people who were calling for the head of the coach the year the team won 10 games?

Good post
Agee. The best salve for my wounds are to watch fU¢LA in a death spiral. Quite entertaining. If we win out and beat fU¢LA by 20 points and go to the Fiesta, or even the Holiday Bowl against OU, this season will still have a moderately happy ending. The 7 year streak had to end eventually. It is sad that Oregon didn’t get more of a pop in the polls. It will be very tough for them to make the BCS game, it appears. We’ll see what happens in 45 minutes with the BCS rankings.

2nd Pac-10 loss...
not THAT big of a deal. Sure it’ll probably keep USC out of a BCS bowl game but in reality, you’ll still recruit really good for next year when your toughest opponents are a home game. By the time you rip off a bunch of wins here to end the season (hopefully except against UCLA) and work some people over next year the Oregon game will be a distant memory.
I’m not saying that I’m sticking up for you Trojans but everything should be kept into perspective.

See the post above this one on the main page
I think we have the right perspective.
We will be back while you guys try to get the training wheels off…

Which is more disappointing?
Hard to say. UCLA wasn’t projected to do much this year; at best 7-5 and a minor bowl bid. That is still possible although more likely its 5-7 or 6-6. I don’t see a win against USC, obviously, but home games against UW and ASU are certainly winnable and the road game against WSU is a pretty sure bet for UCLA. We played everyone in the upper half of the conference, were underdogs in all IIRC, and were competitive in most. Now we play the three worst teams in the conference. Hard to say UCLA is disappointing for results; disappointing as to the team’s showing and relative lack of improvement, absolutely.
Personally, I don’t believe this USC loss should be considered a disappointment-certainly the UW loss was. Oregon is a good team and USC has lost so much talent, coaches as well as players. 2 losses was hardly unexpected; I think I called 2-3 losses as probable. So where’s the disappointment? Only in the minds of some delusional fans who think that the ride can last forever.
Stupid poll question if you ask me.

At last count, USC was leading the poll with 53%....
totally ridiculous. Most reasonable fans and knowledgeable pundits anticipated 2-3 losses for the Trojans this season. The overreaction, perhaps, is not to the losses, but how the losses happened. Rather than close game road losses to Ohio St, Cal or Oregon, we lost to a bottom dwelling Washington and got taken behind the woodshed in Eugene. The two loss record is not so disappointing, but the anatomy of the losses is quite concerning.

Whos more disappointed?
At this point probably Trojan fans. No one was expecting much in Westwood. No one is shocked at how bad the bruins are doing. People may have expected USC to not win the Pac-10 this year, or at least think that this is the year when some other team in the conference could make a serious run at the Trojans. Well… it happened. I knew this day would come. It has been a great ride, the streak was awesome, and unbelievable, but it has come to an end, and that’s ok.
Its time to dare I say it… rebuild. Was this Pete Carroll’s first rebuilding year? Why doesn’t he get to have one? We will be fine in the long run. The conference is better when more teams are competing for the Rose Bowl. The Ducks stepped up and took our crown, now we have to come back in 2010 and take it back.
2010 at the coliseum… its going to be Duck season in Los Angeles.

UCLA is in it's 2nd year of re-buiding,
has higher admissions standards, and doesn’t cheat.
What USC’s excuse?

It’s going to come together at some point, and then I’ll be laughing out the other side of my face.

Re: admissions standards, Harbaugh seems to be coping well at Stanford, somehow I doubt he’s under less stringent guidelines than UCLA.
Also, how long does it take to build that impressively Pavlovian reflex to include some mention of cheating any time that USC comes up?

There’s no way in hell they allow the likes of Randal Carroll and Morrell Presley through Stanford admissions. The vaunted “UCLA high standards” went out the door when Karl Dorrell caved in and hired Eric Scott; they took a further plunge with Slick. It’s time for you lying/delusional bRuins to stop living in Fantasyland.

UCLA is rebuilding every year not just the last two years. The difference between USC and UCLA is that USC doesn’t try to make excuses and finds a way to get by adversity and UCLA always looks for excuses like higher admission standards injuries just to name a few. And as far as cheating goes what has USC been sanction for by the NCAA?

Old & tired excuses are coming around...
Never mind they had the “dream team” and 3 pretty good recruiting classes…
what else are you selling?

Doesn't cheat ever?
Or doesn’t cheat right now. Your statement is pretty broad dude. Sure Bush cheated, and Mayo probably cheated too. But so did DeShaun foster, and 8 of the 11 banners hanging in Pauley Pavilion are tainted by Sam Gilbert. ucla has cheated in the past, and so has USC.
