Who is more corrupt? The NCAA or The BCS?
Check out this post from SBN's New Blog BCS Evolution...
If the BCS is as American as the electoral college, then the NCAA is as efficient at governing tournaments as the US congress.
Lets entertain the caricature of a corrupt and oppressive conspiracy in college sports gerrymandering the rules to keep their power base intact and unthreatened. The BCS is the front for a far deeper and profound cancer within the NCAA. Who runs the BCS? The 11 conference commissioners. These people are under the same thumbs that drive the NCAA mafia. Consider:
February 2009: MWC submits a BCS proposal
March 2009: NCAA Basketball tournament selection committee overlooks MWC members New Mexico and SDSU and takes teams with a lower RPI for the final at-large bids.
April 2009: BCS responds to the MWC proposal with the observation that only their idea of the inclusion of a selection committee rather than the BCS standings had meritOr: MWC get back in line, or else!
By keeping the championship system in the hands of the conference commissioners and bowl sponsors the BCS keeps the NCAA's ancient and dirty politics out of college football. While some accuse the BCS of violating anti-trust law, let's not forget the US Supreme Court found the NCAA has violated anti-trust laws in its revenue sharing and TV coverage rules of the 80's. The BCS is at least innocent until proven guilty.
Whoa!
Can you say Chicago-style politics?
Follow the money baby!!!

And who owns the 11 Commissioners?
Big Corporate Media of course. ESPN-ABC-FOX-NBC are the puppet masters pulling the strings of the “Big 11” NCAA commissioners, who then dance to their master’s will.
Your analogy with Congress is apt – for Corporate America also controls Congress, both parties.
We the people can win the BCS battle eventually, but just like taking on Congress to change the corrupt business practices, it will take a lot of time, patience and as SoCal Native alluded to a couple weeks ago – it will take some sort of revolution among college football fans.
Great post Paragon.

Viva la revolucion!
But how? The only way I can see the fans making their opinions known and impactful is by refusing to attend or watch bowl/BCS title games until the system is fixed. Unfortunately, given our addiction to football, I don’t really think that is plausible.
So what are our other means of winning the BCS battle?

Tough question Paragon!

Is it just me ...
Or do you guys also hear a collective roar of blinding rage coming from Uclans who are right now gnashing their teeth and sputtering “Reggie Bush” and “OJ Mayo” at the very thought of a USC fan daring to point a finger at a corrupt NCAA.

Most pretty much think only of bush & mayo, I only think of those guys when I here or read something.
I feel most over at BN have gismo hooked up to their brain that feeds them Mayo & Bush shocks. Maybe like Pavlov’s theory of condition response, yes I can see it now miceter running around in his cage with a ucla beanie on.

You mean BNers...
the same mob that was calling Tedford’s head on a platter because of his “low standards” and for bringing in Marshawn Lynch. Puhleez. As so.cal. so aptly puts it, “mice with ucla beanies.”

So was I, but it hard since I am not a lab rat.
I believe late last night while I was driving near a park I saw some little bruins running across the road, I hope I didn’t run over one. Would that be a crime or an Ncaa violation?

I love the Selection Committee
And I wouldn’t complain if it was included in any revisions to CFB postseason play.
Men’s basketball has a huge advantage over college football for two reasons: (1) There’s more information available to the Selection Committee than there is in CFB; more games are played overall and teams play other teams more than once during a season. That allows a more meaningful comparison to be made between teams. (2) Basketball lends itself to a much larger playoff field. The differences between snubbing an SDSU at the 66ths spot and snubbing a Virginia Tech at the 13th or 17th spot (or whatever the wrong side of the cut line is in a given proposed playoff scheme is) are huge.
That said, I really like the idea of a committee working together to consider a team’s body of work and place (and seed) games accordingly. Should CFB ever move to a playoff system, I think it’s by far the best way to allocate playoff spots.

jim delaney big ten commish, john swofford acc commish, mike slive, sec commish........
dan beebe big 12 commish. i’ll give a break to larry scott, pac-ten commish since his is the new guy on the block and i can’t think of big east commish. jim delaney has the most power of any commissioner. has had job the longest . he lost the battle of the rose bowl when the ncaa told him if the big ten and pac-ten teams do not qualify that they must take other teams that qualified ahead of of said conferences. that includes conferences like the mwc who do qualify and other aq bcs conferences. it will be funny when tcu beats byu tomorrow and his maybe undefeated(or if they go 8-0) iowa team is surpassed by tcu. if clemson beats miami, tcu who is the only team to beat clemson on their homefield will surpass both iowa and cincinatti. if we get the clean sweep virginia beating gt, tcu would surpass boise state. tcu beat virgina on their homefield too. that is alot of power points in the bcs. i just do not want to be around jim delaney when he hears or see’s the new bcs standings in his office. he will go ballistic and break stuff in his office. just don’t throw and break the phone jim. i’m sure you will need to call your associates and have a confernce call with espn and fox and say it’s time we have a playoff. iowa only has one ranked team left . osu who might not be even ranked when they play. tcu still has utah who will probably be around 12th in the bcs when they play them. peace be with you jim delaney.

Who is more corrupt?
Clearly USC. That macabre prank put you over the top. Didn’t you know that? Shyt.

Definitely the NCAA because...
they are unwilling to hit USC despite the huge paper trail in scandals involving its Football and Basketball programs.

when coupled with you other comment I can see you are looking to start some stuff…
Careful…you might want to keep that on the other board.

Papertrail?
Reggie Bush has paper trail. OJ Mayo, may have a paper trail, although I haven’t seen much of that one. Bush is defintely dirty. Mayo probably is too. Is there anything in the Bush case that points to USC knowing what he and his family were up to? No, there isn’t. There is a bunch of heresay from Reggie’s accusers, and conjecture. The accusations against Floyd are only damning to me because he did nothing to deny them.
I know there are a lot of bruin fans, and fans of other programs that want to see the book thrown at USC. If there are coaches, or administrators involved in some sort of impropriety then I say have at it, and throw the book at us.
But when all the paper trail points to agents having inappropriate contact with 2 athletes, it becomes a much more isolated problem, and the NCAA has set precedents in the past for just these circumstances.
If you guys across town think that the NCAA is going to blow USC out of the water without any hard evidence pointing to the known(really bad), or should have known(not as bad, but still pretty bad,) then you will be waiting for a really long time.
Before you come over here and spout off BN Zaheed rhetoric, then you should actually check your facts, because there isn’t a “huge” paper trail involving the USC football and basketball programs. There is a huge paper trail involving Bush, and a small paper trail involving OJ Mayo.

Where's the paper trail again?
Is it the one that Nestor and you conjured up to recruit for the USC jihad over on BN? Silly, gullible, inferior, little Bruins.

Oh noes
a macabre prank, and a water-balloon fight!!! Call the NCAA, the laundry list has now gotten serious.
What a joke.
They even have Reggie Bush listed 4 or 5 times on that list. I like how the same infraction generates multiple list entries.
LOL
