Is the Bloom off of Urban Meyer?
I am not a big fan of Stewart Mandel and I am pretty ambivalent in regards to Meyer and UF but these are the first comments I have read that question Meyer and his results with his recruits...or transfers cough - Moody - cough...
2. That the Urban Meyer aura is wearing off. He arrived from Utah as the sport's most intriguing new coaching figure, and he backed up the hype almost immediately by delivering a national title in just his second season. But following the Gators' inexplicable home loss to Ole Miss on Saturday, Meyer's team has gone just 6-4 over its past 10 SEC games. Most puzzling of all is how the coach's once-feared offense -- the one that was expected to truly take off once he had "his own guys" -- has regressed considerably in Tim Tebow's second year at the helm.
While Tebow, whose rushing stats are way down from his Heisman season, is the easy scapegoat, the bigger mystery is how, despite four loaded recruiting classes, there are seemingly so few weapons around him. On Saturday, stars Tebow and Percy Harvin combined for 401 of the Gators' 443 yards. Where were RBs Chris Rainey and Emmanuel Moody (six combined carries)? And how is it that none of Florida's young pass-catchers have stepped up to fill the void left by Andre Caldwell and Cornelius Ingram? Until they do, the Gators will be very predictable.
No one stays on top forever...

Well...
I like to read Mandel every now and again, but I really have no respect for Urban Meyer. I cannot help but feel that he had a hand in all of the intrigue and sour grapes surrounding Moddy’s departure. Anyways, I have to point out the irony that Meyer won his National Title at Florida with players mostly recruited by Zook, a coach almost universally despised by Gator Fans.

No quality RB wants to go play for Meyer at Florida
He doesn’t develop running backs; it’s a pretty well-known fact at this point. Even the talent that he has landed has wound up languishing.
If I were a top running back, I’d have a really difficult time taking Meyer seriously at this point in terms of touches and talent development.

But is that important
One of the main reasons he doesn’t develop RBs seems to be that he doesn’t use them. If he doesn’t use RB’s, not having any good ones isn’t a serious issue.
For Meyer’s offense, not having good receivers is a bigger issue.

Meyer has never had to build a program.
Here at Utah, he took over a team with a ton of talent. This is why he chose the Utes because he knew he’d win right away. It’s also a big reason why he went to Florida over his dream job at Notre Dame.
I’m not saying he isn’t a great coach, because he did wonders here at Utah, but we’ve seen far more consistency under his successor Whittingham than we ever did with Meyer. Whittingham had to rebuild Utah football after Meyer left the cupboard empty and it’s now gotten us to a 6-0 start.
I would not be surprised if he hits a wall at Florida and while I don’t think he’ll ever be bad enough to warrant being fired, I could see him winning 8-10 games a year, but doing nothing more.

Florida will probably skip over USC in the polls
2 questions
Does Oklahoma drop below us?
Does Florida skip over us?
