Maurice Simmons gets four years
Four years jail time, that is, not a four year playing career. Without knowing the general sentencing guidelines, (the other guy got 12 years) it's still safe to say that was a pretty expensive decision on his part.
Here's hoping that Maurice Simmons is able to get through this and make something of his time when he's released.
(Does this mean his scholarship is officially available? Yes, I am that heartless, why do you ask?)

Interesting
I’m sure you wouldn’t object to him living in a halfway house on your block, no? People who ROB PEOPLE, that is take property by force or coercion should go to prison. Why are you so quick to believe his story? Because he was a 5 star (or whatever) blue chip ‘SC recruit?? Did you think the same in the early stages of the OJ saga? Have you read any of the coverage to see what the victims said or thought? That normally plays a role in sentencing. I don’t know, because of the LA Times’ wonderful coverage. If you teach people that breaking the law has consequences you’ll get a higher class of people (Penn State pre-00’s) whereas if you don’t you get Miami and FSU where all that matters is your 40 time and your bench press. If that’s the type of team, school and overall culture you want, have at it.

No i don't
I really feel from what I read that this kid didn’t really know what was going down, but since I read he didn’t have any priors he should get probation. I am not saying this so he can play at USC or any other program but that if he goes to prison it just another waste of a human being. I really don’t care if he ever plays football again just that he my get a chance to prove he belongs, the problem with prison it more than turns a person into a criminal than changes them.

Come on now
He was found guilty by a jury. Why assume that he was not in on the robbery? If Simmons was in on the robbery, why are you sympathetic towards him rather than his victim. When I was at USC, one of our own basketball players broke into my car and stole some items. I have no sympathy for what happened to him after he got caught with my things.
Simmons drove the getaway car. If he is lucky he will be paroled in 2 years. 2 years is a lot of time to reflect on one’s mistakes. I have no sympathy for him whatsoever. I do however feel sorry for the person he helped to rob, and his family that has to endure the pain of watching a loved one flush his life down the toilet.

frak you are probably right
But I still feel probation would have been better, and I do not feel USC is the right place if he got probation but feel he should have gotten a different look. I’m not a black man but I know the area, because I lived close to it and played alot of Basketball with guys from there and even gave a ride home to Lo Romar. I really don’t know Simmons background but you would have think his brothers would make him aware of better choices and friends. But growing up in a tough area one can make wrong choices all the time I was just lucky that I made some good ones.

You can't
involve yourself in an armed robbery where deadly harm is threatened and expect probation. Stealing from someone under the threat of death is enough to put someone in jail for me. If thats the way you feel then ok, but I’m fine with where Simmons is right now. I’ll sleep better knowing that he isn’t on the street.

what I read
What I read was that he gave a ride to this guy and slong the way this guy asked him to stop so he could go see this guy. Sounds funny but maybe he didn’t know what was going on or maybe he didn’t, but the time doesn’t match the crime. Also I feel he was push to give this gang banger a ride maybe he thought he might of been shot or harmed by this guy. Well it really doesn’t matter much anyway just my stupid ass opinion, I’m always for the underdog and I give alot of people more than one chance. I guess I come from a bad upbringing, maybe I sound be more like the BANK SOBs and rob from the middle class and feed my bank account.

I dont mean to be uptight
Sometimes people tend to give athletes a break because they are athletes. As long as you look at both sides, you’re entitled to any conclusion that you want to come up with. I looked at it, and came up with the one that works for me.
