Around SBN: Interview With UMD Athletic Director, Dr. Debbie Yow

Yah...We're going undefeated.

anyone who says that USC will not go undefeated, must be mentally insane!!!!  i mean, after USC beats Virginia, 52-7, someone might go : well lets see if they beat Ohio State. After we beat Ohio State, 35-3, i think there is absoluetley no way USC wont go undefeated.  USC dominates, no question about it.  if you say USC will not go undefeated, you my friend, are not a Trojans fan.

                                 GO USC!!!! Make us proud!!!

It depends

Last year after USC beat Nebraska, Bill Plaschke declared that they were better than any other team in just about every way. It turned out Nebraska was terrible, and last year’s USC team was the worst since 2001.

I’d wait until Ohio State proves it’s better than it was last week against Ohio before making any bold statements. Then again, I’m not a USC fan.

Plaschke...Now, there's a reliable source....

He said this as well…“This is a Bruin football town, and has been a Bruin football town, and will continue to be a Bruin football town…” – Bill Plaschke, LA Times October 2001…How’s that working out???

I mean come on…Booty was serviceable but as the record has shown he wasn’t a dynamic as Leinart or Sanchez. This is a whole different team, with a whole different attitude.

Last year SC basically sleepwalked through Idaho at home but once again went on the road to play a team with some stature albeit going through a rough down period. Not a lot of teams do that…take the risk. This year they went on the road to UVA won handily then smoked OSU at home, we’ve done our part early. Its not our fault if the teams we play aren’t up to where they may have been in previous years especially when the hype machine in the MSM is cranking to redline proportions, we went out and won simple as that.

As for bold statements the only “monopoly” ucla has broken has been the one regarding getting attention. news paper ads, helicopter rides and bold speeches at halftime at Pauley haven’t yet changed the power dynamic in LA. In fact I would say that the 59-0 drubbing you took may set you back…you know talk is cheap. I can give Chow and the offense a bit of a pass in their current state but not Walker and the defense especially not after the UT win. That was where ucla had the most experience and you guys got torched.

Like I always say win something first (in football) that’s significant of late then lets talk…

I love it when people use the Buffalo Bills analogy when describing OSU. I can think of 117 other programs that would have given their right arm to go to the title game twice in a row. They, OSU, still had to win in their conference to get there…I may not agree with their scheduling but as we saw last week you can’t take anyone lightly.

Like I said we’ve done our part so far.

USC has done it what needs to so far - yes

But it’s impossible to say how significant these wins are.

It remains to be seen

if USC and Sanchez can survive that “off” game that seems to happen a couple times a season.

injuries

This year’s Ohio state team returns most of it’s starters from last year’s title game. So basically it’s almost the same team but with more to prove. But they blew it last night.

But yeah last years team would have been better had there not been injuries to Matt Spanos, Chauncey Washington, Sam Baker, Chilo Rachal, Rey Maualuga, Kevin Ellison, Brian Cushing, Clay Matthews, Kristopher O’dowd, CJ Gable, Stafon Johnson and of course Booty (I hope I’ve covered them all). But I think the true potential of the team was shown in the last game of the year against a ranked Illinois team that got spanked 49 to 17. had it not been for injuries there’s no doubt that it would have been the best unit in the country, lets also not for get about the record seven players that were taken in the first two rounds of the NFL draft.

So an undefeated season really comes down to staying healthy and not getting too carried away with the wins, if the team keeps these two things in check and continues doing what it is doing an undefeated national championship season shouldn’t be out of reach.
