What the hell happened to Cal?
I watched the third quarter and the Cal offense was just awful. The defense was picking up the slack as best they could but Follett can only do so much.
It looks like they're making a late comeback effort with just under 2 minutes to go, but WTF? I would never had predicted that they would need an onside kick, a touchdown, and a 2 point conversion just to get to overtime.

They actually had a chance with UMD's prevent defense...
That they couldn’t convert the on-side kicks is what killed their comeback chances.

Cal
Oh, there was a lot that happened with Cal. To start the game, MD basically stacked against the run, daring Cal to beat them with the pass, which turned out to be a very good gamble. Riley wasn’t sharp and the offense couldn’t move. He tended to hold the ball too long, overthrow open receivers, and the O-line couldn’t really make anything happen for the running game.
This seems (I certainly hope) to be one of those growing games for the offense, where the experience will come back later against other teams. It’s a tough loss but then again there’s that whole Nietzcheian thing to consider.
Go Bears!
