Byron Moore Switches Commitment
After stellar performance during USC Rising Stars Camp, Byron Moore was awarded a scholarship by Pete Carroll and committed to Trojans shortly after.
Byron is #11 ranked Safety on Scouts and #15 ranked ATH on rivals. He has previously committed to UCLA. Byron was the only UCLA commit with offers from USC and UCLA. Now, none of UCLA commits have USC offers. So much for the "dream team" recruiting.
Now the big question is what we going to hear as an excuse from the clowns accross town. I can only come up with 2 possibilities:
1) OMG, them cheataz paid Byron Moore!
2) He didn't have the grades....

BINGO!
Some posts on BRO were saying it was about grades.
I believe it when he signs but Wolf made an interesting observation:
The significance of this to me is that Rick Neuheisel is not exactly tearing it up in recruiting so far, especially given his reputation at Colorado and Washington. And it appears UCLA misses former assistant coach Eric Scott because USC is now back in business in the Los Angeles City Section for recruits after getting steamrollered last year.
Maybe, Maybe not…but Walker, along with Scott were supposed to have the inside track in the inner city. Maybe it really was Scott who had the contacts. Who knows but it makes for some interesting reading.

Slick Rick
would be tearing it up in the recruiting race if he wasn’t so busy figuring out how to fill out his tournament bracket and deciding which betting pool he was going to join. ucla keeps losing recruits while USC just keeps racking up the talent.

Can't really blame the kid
after reading the article and finding out that he’s a Trojan fan all these years and having a chance to play for SC, I can’t be mad at him. how many kids would love to play for SC but don’t get a chance to.
i am a bruin but seeing a kid being able to live out his dream is always a welcomed sight.
Congrats Byron

Thats fine
but this kid would have competed for a starting job right out of the gate in Westwood. playing time is more important than anything. this kid is going to go up against some pretty stiff competition when he gets here.

Kimbrell confirms it...
another interesting quote Wolfs blog:
``That’s because E. Scott’s gone. E. Scott’s crucial to UCLA’s inner-city recruiting.’‘
—Rick Kimbrel of BruinBlitz.com on Narbonne wide receiver Byron Moore decommitting from UCLA to USC.E. Scott is former UCLA assistant coach Eric Scott.
Looks like Walker’s ties to the hood were useless without Scott.

There are not saying much about this over at BN
so far they are acting like they don’t need this guy and they are satisfied with the JC transfers

Not you...
...ucla, going the JUCO route has its issues.
They wanted this guy, but making noise about having him switch only brings attention to Slick Rick falling short on this one.

It has nothing to do with us not needing the guy
but those of us who follow recruiting knew all along he’d end up a Trojan. He grew up an SC fan so we knew once he got his commitment it was only a matter of time before he switched.

OK, then why offer him at all?
I don’t disagree that he always wanted to be a Trojan but I don’t recall reading anywhere That Moore was always an SC guy and that he was going to to decommit from ucla once he was offered by SC.
More to the point, I would think that the coaches know recruiting better than any 10 of us combined. Is it safe to say that they offered Moore because he didn’t get an up front offer from SC? If so then why not make it stick? If Moore had stayed committed to ucla you and I both know that the crazies within your fan base would have made a big deal out of it.
I understand that its going to take a while for Neuheisel to make inroads on the recruiting trail but that is what I thought he retained Walker for, or was it more Eric Scott?.
Neuheisel has a ways to go yet, I will give him that but I have said it before…to a lot of us it seems that he is trying to make some noise by trying to poke SC in the eye. The rable-rousing during halftime at the basketball games, trying to use the Brennan Carroll video etc. does give the situation an impression of desperation.
Going on the premise that Moore was always an SC guy, stealing him would have been a big coups and Neuheisel would used it to once again poke SC in the eye. But that wasn’t discussed anywhere.
You seem to know the situation pretty well, maybe you should be the recruiting coordinator…

Personally
My response to SC recruits switching to ucla:
1. We didn’t want the guy
2. He was always going to go to ucla
3. This isn’t a recruiting loss for Pete
4. Hooray for us for this guy leaving and playing for our rival

You go after every guy out there
Moore just got his offer from USC last week so maybe you don’t offer him and he sticks with the Bruins? There are guys like Jamarkus McFarland who USC offered, but has a 0.001% chance of ending up at USC. There was a chance Moore ended up a Bruin if USC didn’t offer him or if he developed an extremely tight bond with some of the other committed players, but those odds were slim. We went after Moore and lost out to you. That’s not anything new and until Neu can start putting together strings of W’s he’s not going to compete with the top programs for all the top recruits.

Again, no disagreement...
But there was no talk about Moore probably jumping if he was offered by SC. With that logic Neu would offer everyone just to see he could get a couple to commit.
I just don’t see Neuheisel just going after a guy simply to see if it sticks, Moore fit a need for ucla no question but Neu wouldn’t have gone after him if he didn’t think he could get him.
The other question then is how does he explain the loss of Pollard?

Walker and Scott
made serious inroads at a lot of schools not only only in the innercity, but all over SoCal. Now Scott is gone and it seems like recruits are scared Walker may only be around for another year or two before bolting for a head coaching job. Neu is going to have to make his own connections in the recruiting world. That was my biggest concern with Neu when we hired him. He’s been out of the game for 5 years and now has to re-connect with all the high schools and their coaches again. It may take some time.

I didn't even see a mention of it
Guess a blind eye is turned to Neu’s recruiting losses.
