UNC attempts to soothe bruin feelings

Bumped. OK......Paragon

As those of you who follow basketball noticed, UCLA lost 78 - 63 to Memphis last night, being largely out-shot (unusual) and out-rebounded (very unusual).

However, UNC managed to make that look like just an iffy day at the office in their 84 - 66 loss to Kansas. It wasn't just that the margin was a little bigger, it was the way that the Tarheels lost - starting out on the wrong end of a 40 - 12 game in the first half, getting to within 5 with a strong stretch of play, and then falling apart again.

Perhaps any UCLA fans who were watching the Kansas - UNC game last night found themselves thinking, damn, it actually could have been worse.

Apparently UCLA fans were chanting "one more year" to Kevin Love as the team left the court, and there's certainly something to be said for that. As the man said, he went to UCLA to win a championship.

Should Love return, I can't advise him about how to improve his game, but I will offer this advice: if you do come back for another season, Kevin, you've got to take it easy on the Taco Bell - trust me and my sad sad knees, I failed to learn this lesson. Also, continue to enjoy the honeys, as this counts as aerobic exercise, but learn from Matt Leinart's mistake and keep that rascal wrapped. Bareback reverse cowgirl sessions don't burn calories and do result in little Kevins. Pace yourself.

Couldn't resist...sorry

I watched the game
The bruins have nothing to be ashamed of.  Every team, and every player has a game where nothing seems to go right.  Collison is a fantastic point guard, and he just had a terrible game.  We all know he is a better player than what he showed us yesterday against Memphis.  I hope he doesn't take it too hard, it happens.  Making it to the Final Four 3 times in a row is nothing short of amazing.  I tip my hat to coach Howland and his players for a great season and representing the Pac-10 well in the tournament.

Whether or not K Love returns for another year really depends on his draft position.  Any of you ucla guys know where he is projected to go if he comes out early?

true enough
If you're going to insist on being mature about it... A team doesn't get to the Final Four three years on the trot without being good. And from what I heard, Collison was specifically targeted by the Memphis team for height mismatches, and there's not much you can do about that.

The bruins will have a better idea, but ESPN says that Love is a "late lottery to mid first round pick."

bruins NC
Its a no win situation for me.  One of my best friends is a huge bruin fan, who I attend games with at both Pauley and Galen when our teams play each other.  He supplies the Pauley tickets, and I get him into the Galen center.  We have a good time rooting our teams on, and have a no ragging on the loser policy after the game.

For my friend, I am truly sorry that the bruins lost.  He went to San Antonio for the final four, and has attended all of the bruins national championships going back to the Wooden era.  This year was especially special for him because he recently had suffered several terrible strokes that almost killed him.  For my friend to see his team win it all, would have been a special moment for him considering all he has been through this year.  Thats the reason why I don't like getting down into the hate gutter with the haters from both sides.  Everyone just gets covered in crap in the end.

ESPN says
Collison and Love are turning pro.  No big surprise there.  We will see how the bruins do without Mata and Love next season.  They probably will do fine with Shipp, Westbrook, and Luc.

Westbrook, too, says ESPN
Meanwhile, Kevin's agent might push him toward more of a Hansbrough diet and stop those runs for the border.

For what it's worth
ESPN said that the LA Times is reporting it.  The LA Times did not report that Westbrook was going pro, only that he was expected to go pro.  They didn't attribute this to sources and probably only "reported" it since it is conventional wisdom.
