Signing Day Open Thread
What the heck I'll do as best as I can.
From WeAreSC
7:45 AM - D.J. Shoemate, Armond Armstead, Brian Baucham, Tyron Smith, Matt Kalil and Drew McAllister have all faxed in their letters-of-intent.
I'll update as I can.
Update [2008-2-6 11:25:49 by Paragon SC]: Looks like Joe Adams changed his mind and decided to stay in Arkansas. I had a bad feeling about this on 2 fronts, 1) SC wanted him as a corner not a receiver and 2) Ryan Mallet transferring from Michigan. Hearing rumors on Nick Perry Commiting to SC that would be a great get. (confirmed on WeAreSC)
Update [2008-2-6 11:42:3 by Paragon SC]: KABOOOOOOOOM! Confirmed, Nick Perry does pick SC that is a great get for PC! The D Line will be in much better shape!
Update [2008-2-6 12:17:17 by Paragon SC]: From USCRipsit.com
- Offensive lineman Daniel Campbell
- Defensive lineman Wes Horton
- Defensive lineman Malik Jackson
- Tailback Curtis McNeal
- Linebacker Maurice Simmons
- Defensive lineman Jurrell Casey
- Defensive lineman Nick Perry
Update [2008-2-6 12:38:57 by Paragon SC]: WOW! PC pulls in T. J. Bryant that’s a great get.
Update [2008-2-6 15:8:17 by Paragon SC]: Jerrell Harris goes to Alabama. Not surprising, we will be a little thin at LB after next year. Oh well can’t get them all. Still waiting on Kavienga
Update [2008-2-6 21:44:58 by Paragon SC]: Kavienga announces for USC. The class is pretty much complete. I will have a write up later on tomorrow.
Great Class!
FIGHT ON!

On the other hand- I wish Adams well. Not an entirely huge loss. But we coulda used him on D, that FOR SURE.

Joe who? oh Adams? (bummer)
It would have been great to get both JAdams and TJ, but TJ is 5-star, is bigger, faster, and has played top-notch competition (sorry, FL athletics trumps most all states except for CA, IMHO)
And Nick Perry? The big-guy runs a 4.5 40 !! That's off the charts.
This defensive class is smokin'.
I don't care what anybody says or where we're ranked, we've got some football players who can contribute right away with this class. We've addressed a good number of our concerns and it's still the early part of the day. East Coast included.
I'm glued to the internets today. This is the first time since the 2003 class that I've actually WANTED to pay attention to our recruiting.
Notre Dame? who cares.
It's the Tide (as in Alabama) that seem to have one of the better classes with WOW.
We've got WOW (just not your garden variety QB/RB positions)
It's been epic so far.
Thanks for all the updates Paragon. It's silly what you do for us here at CC.

Talk about carnage. . . . .?
I just read in Eric Sondheimer's LAT letter-of-intent article updated at 11:15 AM today:
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-recruit7feb07,1,4254134.story
Kevan Walker (DeWayne Walker's son ???) has signed with Oregon State.
(ps: Paragon, I know this doesn't have anything to do with USC, just didn't wanna post it in a diary and thought our good friends here on CC would wanna know. Delete this comment if it is not appropriate)

I was thinking the exact same thing!
Or. . . .is DeWayne having his sights on Riley's staff? Job?
I don't know, but Kevan's choice puts weird little clouds in the occupying space between my shoulders.
But yeah DC, considering Kevan's pops has an "in" over at fucla- the guy had the greenest light to go over there. . . inquiring minds wanna know the logic behind his choice. (wait, don't tell me? GRADES?)

2008 Recruiting Class Rated . . . . .
Brice has the best hands of any prep receiver, according to Rivals.com. Scouts Inc. rated him as the Trojans' top recruit and No. 15 overall prospect nationally.
. . . pretty high on most all recruiting service websites after the national signing day had ended yesterday. Better than what was initially projected for USC. There was a poll on SWolf's blog a few days ago, if memory serves me correctly most of the respondents projected USC's 2008 class somewhere between Top 10 - 15 nationally. This after hearing so much national media buzz regarding Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, fUCLA, and Miami. (where did Florida go?) Make no bones about it, Alabama and Notre Dame received some hella-good footballers and athletes. And with fUCLA getting Milton Knox late last night, well that pushed them closer to a universally praised incoming class.
And while this USC class is not as well regarded as past ones - ranked No. 6 in the nation by ESPN, No. 7 by Rivals.com and No. 13 by Scout.com - I'm sure we can all be pleased with a ROCK SOLID foundation on both the O-line and D-lines. TJ Bryand and Nick Perry? I can't believe those two gets?
Matt Barkley, Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior at Santa Ana Mater Dei and the consensus top quarterback in 2009, verbally committed to USC last month.
BigBalls Pete is well on his way to a good-looking 2009 class. He learned his lesson from 2 years ago when DeWayne Walker convinced Dorrell to "start early" in the recruiting process which started the fUCLA recruiting machine to go after the current crop of players they were able to cultivate and lock-down relationships that led to their stellar class. Neuheisel has been hitting hard line drives lately. This class was his to lose, and he did a formidable job at retaining those "oral's" to sign on the dotted line. For us in 2009, Matt Barkley is joined by other standouts such as Agoura offensive tackle Kevin Graf and Fresno Edison safety T.J. McDonald, which has the makings of a possible No. 1 class.
All in all, we've secured six (that is correct, 6!) of the country's top-100 guys in this recruiting class, it's a monster start for next season. Coach Carroll has just re-staked his claim in Los Angeles. (not that he lost anything since the Neuheisel/Chow hire) There has been a lot of PR with Rick Neuheisel at fUCLA. BUT USC AND PETE CARROLL IS CONTINUING TO SHOW THAT THEY ARE THE DOMINANT PROGRAM.
Milton Knox and a JUCO transfer QB at fUCLA be damned.
