School Colors

Good Day Gents.

I have a questoion regarding school colors.

I feel as though most schools do not do a good job at giving students their actual school colors. As a UCLA student, I can't tell you how many navy blue and yellow, blue and yellow, and navy blue and gold items I have been given when UCLA should be powder blue and gold.

USC is not different. My fiancee has 3 jerseys but we have a floor mat that is a literal gold and cardinal. It looks fantastic, but it isn't the normal "yellow" you wear during the game.

So what is it? Does USC (or UCLA) care about what color they really are? Does USC care about being "Cardinal and Gold" even though they wear "Cardinal and Yellow???"

Does UCLA have to be "powdered blue and gold???" Can they wear other colors???

What say you?

I have no idea
I'll be honest, I haven't given this a great deal of thought... about the only things I own in school colors are one of those bad-ass Hawaiian shirts and a cap, most everything else commemorates a bowl win of one kind or another.

Same here...
I have always assumed that the colors on all of my  SC swag was the same as the colors on the unis but I really haven't paid too much attention to it.

Cardinal and Gold
It's easier to differentiate powder blue from navy blue (since those are clearly describing shades) than it is "gold" from "yellow". If you look on the right side of the CC page, you can see the Gold (Menu, Sponsors) and the Cardinal (the right column itelf). I thought the UCLA confusion was because they originally just swiped their colors (and mascot) from Cal and only later changed to powder blue, but then I don't keep up with the evolution of public universities.

In terms of USC, I've never seen much variance in the gold part, but there are a couple of variations on the cardinal. Cardinal should be between red-red and maroon-red, but sometimes they go with a maroon. Since we have a song called "Cardinal and Gold" (ask Link), I think we have less leeway to f*ck around with our colors.
