Coach Neu Shows 'SC some L.O.V.E!
The final BCS standings are out. Both the coaches and Harris polls turned out some doozies! Let's take a small sample look, shall we?

Big ass hat tip to Coach Neuheisel of Ucla. Here's his Top 4, in order:
1. Texas
2. Florida
3. USC
4. Oklahoma
Now is that "love" or what?
Both Rutgers coach (Schiano) and Fresno St. (Hill) coaches put Rutgers at #25. FYI: Fresno St beat Rutgers in their first game of the season.
Coach Mike Leach of Texas Tech thought it should be an All Big 12 BCS Championship game. OK and TX? Hail NO! OK and Texas Tech, that's who! And what of Texas? (Leach put them down at #5!, O.U.C.H!)
COUNT 'EM: 5 of the 7 Big 12 coaches who voted, had it an ALL BIG 12 BCS Championship game. Yup, you heard it right! Bo Pelini (Neb), Gene Chizik (Iowa St), Dan Hawkins (Colo), Gary Pinkel (Missouri), and Mike Leach (T Tech). All except Coach Leach had OK and TX in the BCS title game. These people vote AND drive among you, remember!
UBER UTAH, UBER URBAN: Utah gets mad love from some of Usual Suspects. Urban Meyer (former coach of the Utes) put Utah at #5, one place in back of Texas (4). (Do you think he wanted to see Texas in the title game with his Gators? No, uh-uh. I don't think so either) Coach Pat Hill (Fresno St) put Boise St. at #6, and Utah at #7 (ahead of Penn St. and Texas Tech). Utah's very own coach, Coach Whittingham put his team at #5, ahead of USC - which he put down at #6.
Roll Tide, Roll! : Here are a few very interesting observations from the pundits and coaches. (not that I'm complaining) Florida St. coach Bobby B put 'Bama down at #3, ahead of Texas (#4). Georgia coach, Coach Mark Richt put Florida #1 and Alabama at #2. And finally- this one is just great: Texas El Paso coach, Coach Mike Price (fired at 'Bama before he even coached a game) has the Crimson Tide at #4.
But Coach Neu? Dude, you're making it hard not to hate you!

It's a trap!
Don’t be fooled! It’s a motivational ploy for the Bruins players and recruits! Neuheisel’s putting his ranking on the bulletin board with SC circled in baby blue and gold with a note saying “this can be you if you work hard enough!”
Don’t fall for it!

I won't DC, I promise.
Is it just me or. . . shouldn’t it be REQUISITE to NOT RUN AFOUL of NCAA regulations like. . . . .BETTING AND LYING ! ! ! . . .in order to VOTE in the coaches poll? Something’s not right (again) in the way these things are done.
He did. . . . however . . . .vote us in a pretty damn good spot.

They're all biased
If you look through the rankings you can see that coaches systematically overrate members of their own conference. Another example of this is that 4 of the 5 coaches that had Boise State ahead of Utah were from the WAC, including Chris Petersen.

I can understand Petersen at least, but it seems silly to allow coaches to vote for their own team.

Question?
Does anyone know what the criteria or standards are for A. coach selection, B. total number of voters, and C. representation that are involved in The Coaches Poll?
I know our very own Pete Carroll refuses/withdraws from being an eligible or active voter in this endeavor, but really- apart from being “transparent”, the top-10 teams in the coaches poll is all about a money-grab and the bottom-15 is a massive hugging of nuts!

Just as an FYI
Here is Jeff Tedford’s top 5:
1. Florida
2. Oklahoma
3. USC
4. Texas
5. Alabama
I guess playing against $C results in some respect.
Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Indeed
If you couple today’s post by our very own anh_sc79 (Revisiting OOC Scheduling Analysis) with this one, your comment of SC and Okla playing the toughest does bear this out- to some degree.
I’m glad for the respect shown by both Neuheisel and Tedford. I do believe both coaches truly feel our Trojan team is pretty good. The Pac 10 might not have been as competitive this year as it has in year’s past, but our overall “conference” D has been pretty good.
The PAC 10 seems to have gone from an “aerial” / “offensive” conference, to a “run attack” / “defensive” conference. We have some the the nation’s best playing defense, and we still have a large number of quality offensive players in our RB’s, QB’s, WR’s, and TE’s.
