BlogPoll Ballot Regular Season Final

This will probably be my most controversial ballot.

With the loss of Alabama to Florida in the SEC Title Game I moved Texas up #1. The reasoning is simple Texas beat OU head to head and even though OU went to the Big 12 title game and Beat an overmatched Missouri team my opinion is that they should not have been there in the first place.

I have stated that over the past few weeks and I don't intend to change that now.

Florida moves to #3 with their win over Alabama but their one loss to Ole Miss doesn't move them up past the top 2.

USC is up to #4...I won't put them over UF because the offense should have made a stronger case against ASU, Cal and UCLA. It isn't just about stats, the offense left some points on the field and in this era of Style points that matters.

Alabama is right where they should be...they had a great season but they ran out of gas.

As for Utah, Boise State and PSU...I labored a bit over this. Going undefeated does matter even if its in a non-BCS conference so I kept PSU at #8 not becuase they aren't as good as Utah and BSU but because that even with their one loss they played Coastal Carolina and Temple, a couple of doormats. I’ll give them the Beavers as they beat us and I will even give them pass for Syracuse because they were probably good when they scheduled them and one can never know how a team will be 2-3 years after you put them on the schedule, but I have a real hard time with scheduling FCS patsies like this…especially when they don’t even play everyone in their conference.

The Big 10 takes a lot of grief from the pundits, fans, and press. Some deserved some not. But the Big 10 (11) isn't big enough to have a conference Championship so there is no reason why they can't play a round robin within the conference. Dump Coastal Carolina and Temple and play Minnesota and Northwestern and that credibility gap closes big time.

Scheduling is also the same reason why I have Texas Tech where they are...I mean come on, Eastern Washington, Nevada, UMass? I understand the argument the split conferences try put forth but some of these schools don't even try to be creative.

Ohio State rounds out the top 10...

RankTeamDelta
1 Texas 1
2 Oklahoma 1
3 Florida 1
4 Southern Cal 1
5 Alabama 4
6 Utah --
7 Boise State --
8 Penn State --
9 Texas Tech --
10 Ohio State --
11 Cincinnati 1
12 TCU 1
13 Brigham Young 2
14 Oklahoma State 2
15 Oregon 2
16 Northwestern 2
17 Ball State 6
18 Virginia Tech 7
19 Georgia Tech --
20 Michigan State --
21 Boston College 7
22 Georgia --
23 Oregon State --
24 Pittsburgh --
25 Missouri 4

This is not gonna fly, I know

I’d put USC ahead of Florida simply because losing to Oregon St at Reser Stadium is a helluva lot easier going down than losing to Ole Miss at HOME! Urban RUNS UP the score each and every time he can, he gets the style points already.

WE’D SMOKE ‘EM in a head to head. We’d smoke EVERY TEAM out there in a head to head. I’d put Oklahoma in 1st, USC 2nd and WHO CARES ABOUT THE REST.

Really, what team WANTS TO PLAY US?

NOBODY. . . . . . that’s who. (Oddyseus, anyone? hint: The Cyclops)

USC above Alabama

Come on man. I know you’re a homer but our one loss is WAAAYYYYY better than yours. Lets be real here.

I was going on the "one loss is better" comment

I’d have to say bammer, that the ‘SC D would give my beloved Tide fits! Basically, they’d (Bama) would have no running game, and Julio would get his. . .but that’s all. Our lines (Bama O vs. ‘SC D) would be a game of all games! We prolly wouldn’t get to JPW, but we’d hold ’em to a “short” game. Whoever has less penalties and can get in the red zone (both teams are LIGHTS OUT in the red) wins.

Right now, I’d seriously put ‘SC ahead of Bama and I’m not kidding on the OK in front of Texas. If I’m trying to be sane, would I still put USC ahead of Florida.

YUP!

This is kinda what I'm talking about:

Right here.

Basically, the people in charge of putting their money where their mouth is, rather than subjectively putting down teams in a ranking based on who the “think” are the best would choose: USC.

I’m not advocating betting by no stretch of the imagination, but just cold hard facts. Facts that if you can’t back it up, WILL get you in the wallet.

Call me cynical

But I think that’s reflective of getting people to bet more than the likely outcomes. Betting against USC has to be good business for the bookies. (Are they even called that any longer?)

The Penn State fans are already grumpy that the opening line was SC by 10. The teams’ relative stats don’t suggest that it should be a big line, so 10 points says to me that they are trying to draw bets on Penn State winning.

You bet

Nothing like tapping into that Pennsylvania m-o-n-e-y.

“. .Are they even called that any longer?” DC- that tickled my funny bone like no other this morning! (and I already read Doonesbury) You can’t be that far off the edges of civilization in the town of our President, can you?

To answer, that’s a really good question. Believe it or not, I rightly don’t know?

I’m disappearing over the horizon of middle age, Bix, there’s no two ways about it. I’m just hanging on to sports, blogging, and the news to retain some connection to the outside world ; )

You’re just barely getting some “wear” on those tires than, eh? Well son, you hang on to them sports, and blogo-spherical things, and news. . .oh yeah, that. Just don’t give up on futbol, or. . . .er. . .soccer! as they say it.

Trust in futbol. And your beloved Trojans. They’ll save ya. They will.

Thats easy....

Arkansas State and Western Kentucky

and only one offensive TD against Tulane they are good where they are…and they were one year ahead of schedule 2009 was the year they were supposed to contend for the MNC

Yes, I am a PSU fan

but, your resoning for PSU at 8 makes no sense. Our schedule is very similar to Alabama’s, but you have them ahead of the non-BCS schools. And do you honestly belive Utah is better than PSU? Utah barely beat the shittest Michigan team ever, which PSU blew out and OrST, which PSU also blew out (at Utah) gave the game away to the Utes.

by whiteoutonly on Dec 9, 2008 5:23 PM PST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Utah and BSU are undefeated within a non BCS conference…they aren’t on the BCS level over all but they are undefeated none the less.

Seven of Penn State’s eleven wins came against 5-7 Illinois, 5-7 Temple, 4-8 Purdue, 3-9 Michigan, 3-9 Indiana, 3-9 Syracuse, and FCS Coastal Carolina.

I ding you for the FCS school and Temple I give you a pass on Syracuse becuase when they were scheduled they were pretty good but that is no guarantee of future results.

Of the teams ahead of Utah/BSU (except for USC who plays a round robin in the pac-10) all play FCS patsies but they have a conference championship. PSU/Big-10(11) doesn’t play a round robin, doesn’t have a conference championship and schedules FCS schools. Its not scientific, it doesn’t mean I am right… its simply an opinion that I have.

by Paragon SC on Dec 9, 2008 7:03 PM PST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

ok

at least you have some sound criteria, but how would this apply to a team like Texas, a team that plays in a conference with a championship, but does not play in the game itself. One could also argue that the round robin hurt USC this year becuase if they didn’t have to play one of the Washington schools, practically any other school they would play out of conference would have increased USC’s strength of schedule. Also the big10 is in a odd situation (by their own doing) with 11 teams, 10 conference games would really limit out of conference scheduling flexibility and they can’t have a championship unless they have 12 teams (we all know the big10 is uselessly waiting on Notre Dame and are afraid if they go after another team they’ll lose their chance at them forever)

Basically we won’t know which teams are better unless they all play. At least we’ll find out who is better on the 1st, USC or PSU.

Definitely

Doesn’t really matter what the polls think at this point, it will all be settled on the field.
