Can't win 'em all Skippy!
While a number of fans lamented the loss of Morrell Presley to ucla last week I found an interesting aside to the recruiting wars in L.A.
At the time of his commitment, there was some surprise he jumped on the offer from SC so early because Cal was always the school considered his dream school. Carroll camped with the Trojans in the summer and seemed to solidify his commitment only to open up things once again when the season kicked off.
At the recent Hawaii-Mainland All-American game, Carroll was quoted in an interview with Rivals.com saying his mom didn't like USC very much, that he was disappointed that Steve Sarkisian was leaving for Washington and said he was 'shaky on USC right now.'
There were reports that UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisal had come in for a home visit with Carroll earlier in the week but according to one of his coaches, "Randall blew it off and didn't show up for it."
So what's next for Carroll? We know there is interest in Florida and Georgia in addition to the two Pac 10 schools. He has already visited Cal and will likely visit the Gators, Dawgs and Trojans in January.
I think its poor form that Randall Carroll blew the meeting off. If he wasn't interested he should have just said so.
More important this shows what we already know...Neuheisel will be an aggressive recruiter (that's a good thing) but he isn't going to get everything that he covets. He can only play the "early playing time" card only so many times. Some players are going to see right through Neuheisel and his approach, as is the case here with Randall Carroll.
Carroll has shown himself to be a bit of an enigma in his wavering on his committment to USC. He seems to be very smart and very shrewd in his approach to the recruiting process and with UGA and Florida also in the mix I have a hard time believing that ucla was ever in the running to land him. I have seen a number of fans compare him to DeSean Jackson in his attitude and style. I wouldn't know nor do I care, if the coaching staff wants him then its fine with me. They have to deal with any drama that may arise I just want the team to win.
So while some were pissed that we lost Presley, I wasn't, they sky is not falling as Skippy has a loooooong way to go yet. He will get his players but as long as Pete Carroll is around it aint going to be easy.

Randall Carroll? Is he worth it?
I don’t know? I almost don’t wanna find out. Sounds like another Travon Patterson.

I'm lazy today
I think he was interested in Oregon? What did happen to him?

He plays for USC right now
But I haven’t heard anything about him transferring.

he is very worth it...solid player with great speed
and I would not count ucla out just on him…i just think he ends up at Cal
he just seems like MeSean…
Cal's got some solid play receivers
Where would he end up on depth for Tedford’s Bears? MeSean started immediately, and had a major impact on certain games, opposing teams had to “scheme” factoring specifically on MeSean. Randall Carroll’s got THAT?
I know Coach Carroll has wanted this guy, and let’s say hypothetically he commits to ’SC- where would he end up on our depth chart as well?.

I'm not disputing Randall's skills/talents
I really don’t know much about him- I’ve read about a total of 5 things about him- all of that was mostly earlier in the year and more recently because “he’s wavering” on his oral. But that’s about it. Which is also why I also wrote earlier “sounds like Travon”- I really don’t know much about either of those guys anymore.

We could have used him the BMW type role
no way this kid will play TE he is too small…
He is listed at 6’3"/6’4" 215…not buying the height, 6’1" maybe 6’2" he needs to add weight then pack on the muscle,
You had to invoke Mike Williams!
What a frickin’ badass he was, eh? That guy just DOMINATED back in our day. And I heard he was doing well in Tennessee Titan’s training camp. Just became a victim of “numbers”, as it were. And in more ways than one.
BMW. Fight On!

Carroll was always iffy
on whether he’d show up for the visit. The visit was always going to be about Neuheisel with Carroll’s family and supposedly Neuheisel did a great job with Carroll’s family. While I think UCLA is in the picture for Carroll, I don’t see him ending up with us. I think he could decommit, but if he does so he’ll probably end up at Cal.
