USC to wear Cardinal Jerseys for Saturday's game at the Rose Bowl!
Just saw this over on WeAreSC!
Trojans to wear Cardinal jerseys on Saturday
The Trojan coaches voted today to accept the penalty for wearing home jerseys during an away game (the penalty is a loss of one timeout per half) and so USC will wear Cardinal jerseys in the game on Saturday against UCLA
Very cool. This is the first step to bring this rivalry back. Great move by Pete Carroll, Will Rick Neuheisel call a time out to even the playing field?
Comments
Never knew the rivalry went away? But it’ll be GREAT to see the both teams in home uniforms. You will definitely see a sportsmanlike response.

Conquest Chronicles CALLED IT!
All of CC’s “Usual Suspects” definitely remember when ParagonSC stoked the flames of this (home and home jerseys for the annual rivalry game with Ucla) being realized. The possibilities of it happening kinda went out the door when our respective Marching Band Directors/University Admin Higher Ups started “clowning” each other by not allowing “away” team’s bands from performing. I even sent an email as well as a written letter- as was suggested by either ParagonSC or frak, to let both Sample and Guerrero know that I was “for” the Home and Home Jersey idea. But when the sh_t was hitting the fan last year (basketball season, I think it was?) – I totally thought that this topic “red-lined” and became DOA. Out of sight- out of mind, if you will.
What a delightful surprise. This game’s taking on an aura of epic proportions. People, WE GOT OURSELVES A GAME!

A tale of two blogs
Apparently, the guys at that other blog aren’t nearly as happy about the jersey thing as you are.
As a kid growing up in LA during the 70’s I remember both teams wearing the home jerseys during the game and I thought it was kind of cool. I honestly don’t have that much excitement over it now, though I will admit that it is a nice idea to return the tradition (even if it made more sense when both teams were home at the Col.).
Still, I find it utterly amusing how the other side is taking this. They really can’t see past their hatred. What a bunch of cuddly folks!

You know, at times I wonder whether the good folks over there might not be suffering from a very severe case of mass paranoia. I mean, it would certainly explain the myopia, arrogance, ego, and bizarre content they seem to have.
The really funny thing is the whole gulag-like atmosphere over there has really been absorbed by all of the commenters. Even those who welcome the return of the dual-home jerseys need to temper their comments with officially approved bn-speak hatred.
Yep, those guys are just wacky!

Hey frak
I heard on the TV news (weird hah? who watches that anymore?) that the Bruin campus is pretty much on lock-down mode (Paragon, there’s a story in there I think?) because . . . . .of all the heinous hi-jinks you think? NO! And a resounding “NO” at that.
The campus has all their cherished statues, buildings, plaques, and otherwise honorary or famed locations (and there are plenty, it truly is a lovely campus) wrapped up, tarped, boxed, and/or sealed so that none of us “thugs” can go over there and PAINT THEM CARDINAL AND GOLD or otherwise deface them, in lieu of RIVALRY WEEK.
It was also learned that this is either “dead week” or the week of finals. Either/or, . . . anyone? Anyone? As a matter of fact, I think it was said that a ton of students will be taking their finals ON SATURDAY and won’t be able to attend the game.
Whew! Hard to “get happy” after all that now, eh?

We should have been doing this all year...
What better way to earn the style points that are so important now, than to spot every team we play 2 timeouts?
At USC we're not snobs, we're just better than you.

wow
Our friends at bn are whining about this because Coach Carroll didn’t “inform” slick rick this week. And that wearing home colors to the rivalry game “lacks respect” even though these fools were pining for home jerseys not long ago. In other news bruins are also whining about not getting SC’s offensive playbook and defensive schemes prior to the game citing a “lack of respect for the bRUINS”. Seems the crybabies called and they want the keys back to their whambulance.

Wow nestor is flip flopping on the jersey thing
I’m so shocked that his opinion changed from last February. That guy is pure comedy sometimes.
I’m glad PC pulled the trigger and had the “Big Balls” to follow through with this idea. I hope losing the timeouts doesn’t burn us, but as long as we know up front what is going to happen, we can only blame ourselves. If this is a close game, both coaches might regret the stunt. With the rule changes this year, this is going to make the game even shorter.

Wow I have been listening to Dan Patrick!
Calls have been mixed Ucla fans really mad and not just Pete but Rick for giving in and leveling TOs. I mean I thought that Rick and pete had an agreement earlier this year, I guess thats not true but it really doesn’t matter now.
I for one don’t think they really don’t need to ware the red unis but come up with yellow away jersey like basketball team. I mean I remember UCLA wearing Black in couple of home basketball games, ND and their green so who cares. Different color unis are really for the Zebras and they still can’t get right most of the time.

ZING!
Good one, so.cal. - !
Our PAC 10 refs, trying as they may- take the cake! If it isn’t the Oklahoma/Oregon game, it’s the Oregon/Cal game? The refs on the field and in front of the review screens are solid, most of the time. But when they blow it, THEY ROYALLY BLOW IT!
Bottom line: our boys have got to MENTALLY be IN ON THE PLAY (each and every play, or else!) and to PLAY LIKE THEY PRACTICE (you know Ruel, Holt, Morton, McNair, and Norton drill them on bio-mechanics, technique, and follow-through hardcore all day, everyday). We’ll still get called for something, that’s just the way it goes with ANY team playing 60-minutes of football. But, for the love of “all things trojan” (wink: Mr. Rose) can we knock it off with the illegal procedure, holding, and celebratory penalties. We’re good yes but RULES DO APPLY TO US TOO!

Interesting development
According to the LA times, the home jerseys will only cost USC 1 timeout in the 1st half, not 1 time out each half as previously expected. This will be far less of an impact to the game now that both teams will have a full complement of timeouts going into the second half of play.
As for the bruin’s that don’t like the jersey idea, they should thank Pete Carroll for thrusting the USC-ucla crosstown rivalry back into the national stage. The home jersey story is getting a lot of press, and more press for ucla can only help their recruiting. Its a great story for USC, ucla, and the PAC-10.
