A Drug Problem in Westwood?

Seems there is a bit of a substance abuse issue going on in Wastewood.

A struggling UCLA offensive line got thinner Tuesday when Coach Rick Neuheisel announced that guards Micah Reed and Scott Glicksberg will be suspended for Saturday's game against Oregon State.

Neuheisel said only that the two seniors -- and junior defensive tackle Jess Ward, also suspended -- are being punished for breaking athletic department rules. Sources close to the program said the players violated the department's drug use policy.

Not sure if it pot or if its PED either way I would say that they have a few character issues acoss town.

Let's make this clear right out of the gate,...this wasn't Slick Rick making the move to suspend these players. He had no choice...

Below is UCLA's guidelines for drug testing: 3. TESTING PROTOCOL:
A. A series of random tests are administered
throughout the year.
B. If a student-athlete has a positive test,
then he/she is required to have a minimum
of one evaluative counseling session by
Student Psychological Services (SPS).
C. Any positive test counts cumulatively
throughout the student-athlete's UCLA athletic
career..
D. Individuals with previous positive tests,
as well as random student-athletes are
tested. A "no-show" is defined as a student-
athlete not reporting for a scheduled
drug test. No-shows are treated as positive
tests.
E. On a first positive test, only the physician
responsible for the drug testing program
will be notified.
F. Following any positive test the studentathlete
has the right for a retest of that
specimen.
G. If a positive result occurs a second time
in a student-athlete's UCLA athletic career,
then the student-athlete is required to go to
SPS for a minimum of three counseling sessions.
H. If a third positive test occurs, the Head
Coach and the Associate Athletic Director
are immediately notified and the studentathlete
is suspended from competition for
the next contest. Three counseling sessions
are required.
I. A fourth positive test results in immediate
suspension from all participation in
intercollegiate athletics at UCLA. The
individual's scholarship will not be renewed
for the following year.

This is the third time they have been busted?

You meanthe school didn't suspend them after the second or even the first infraction?

You're kidding...go figure.

Well I wonder what Nestor and his friends have to say?

I knew this would happen sooner or later, maybe Ruins who live in glass houses shouldn’t be throwing stones.

OUCH!

I’m just beside myself. Student/athletes on DRUGS IN WASTEWOOD? No way! Couldn’t be. This has to be some MAJOR typo?

There are no such things as criminals in Wastewood. No, not there. EVERYONE at that school is CLEAN. Clean smelling. Clean looking. Clean transcripts. Clean. Clean. Clean.

I guess they let thugs in everywhere.

Once again

another example of their poop stinks too. One for our list I guess, if we gave enough of a crap to keep one.

On another note.

Could it possibly be steroids, or is that different in how its handled.

if thats the case

then I put this in the same category as the Sanchez underage drinking arrest. Its something that most of the college kids out there indulge in. Usually I would say a football player would be wise to stay away from things that could harm an eventual career in the NFL, assuming of course the player is NFL material.

I would put this in the stupid, but minor category. If you get thrown off the team for smoking doob, then you deserve what you get.

Tsssssk, tssssk, tisk!

Did you write, “P.O.T” ? . . . ;- )

Let’s just say, for example- the accused football players who are being suspended for the upcoming Oregon State game broke some minor “player/conduct rule(s)”, it would be unfathomably dense that these Bruin homeboys might ACTUALLY GET CAUGHT from random drug test(s) tokin’ that “Reggie Kush”.

Okay. I’m totally interested now.

It is also possible

That Neuheisel skipped a few steps and suspended these guys on the first offense. Guidelines seems like a word that is open to interpretation.

I think it’s a 2nd offense for Ward? But think it was a 1st for the others. And I think I read somewhere that it’s not even a coach decision to suspend, but an automatic suspension upon failing the test. I would think that Neu would have suspended them if it were up to him. He knows how much people are looking to have a clean program at UCLA.

I’m in favor of kicking repeat offenders off the team. Once is a mistake, twice is a trend. BN had a write up on it a few days ago, it didn’t defend the players (especially Ward or who ever the 2 time offender was…)

Quote from a LAT article in Friday's paper:

“When you look at the amount of actual oversight power that the NCAA has, you find there is a tremendous amount of latitude for autonomy. When you don’t have an institutionalized process that guarantees a broad pool of candidates (loose interpretation of infraction(s) – in Code of Conduct bylaws)- it’s left to an individual case-by-case initiative.” (it’s left to allow institutions to punish themselves).
——this was a quote by Dr. Harry Edwards (University of Califronia, Berkeley sociology Professor Emeritus)

Myles has gotta come out with his own Ultimate Fighter-type hiptster custom t-shirts. He’s aikido master with all the failures, shortcomings, accomplishments, and growth that the NCAA experienced throughout his tenure.

( ". . . . .yo Myles! How come I ain’t got that Bluetooth sh_t y’all promised us back at the MacDonald’s All Star tournament? So CHECK THIS out? . . . . . . . .I’ma wanna iPod TreO on top a’ all DAT! )

*******Bix has gotta lay off Scotch and Chimay Blue chasers for the remainder of this weekend. All I wanted to convey is that, “oh. the ncaa-inept-a-thon polemic, again. . .”
So I thought what Dr. Edwards had to say had some relevance here? It kinda does ?? Just see my parenthetical notations. Remember, I’m a little bent right now. Almost luggage. So, take it from right there! Okay?
