Ted Miller has a nice write up on USC's defense.
USC's defense is officially a finalist for "best-ever:" After turning in one of the most dominating defensive performances in recent memory in its 38-3 win over Notre Dame, USC proved its defense is not only the best in the nation this season, it's one of the best ever put together in college football history. And it's not an arguable point, based on a combination of statistics and the future prospects of the gathered talent. The Trojans held a competent Notre Dame offense to 91 yards and four first downs -- no firsts until late in the third when the result was already determined. Teams get four first downs and 91 yards by accident and random chance.
He gives them a helmet sticker as well.
The USC defense: Saddled with a massive strategic disadvantage against Notre Dame and its offensive brain trust, the Trojans nonetheless struggled along and managed to hold the Irish to just four first downs and 91 total yards. Good for those scrappy little Trojans.
Heh...

Impressive to say the least...

Team rankings dominated by two words: Southern, California
I remember when ND finally got their first first down on the last play of the third quarter, all the Fighting Irish fans gave the offense an “enthusiastic” standing ovation one guy was even jumping up and down wildly flailing his arms like a maniac, after our disappointment faded we all followed suit, haha, good times.
I also have issue with the phrase “competent Notre Dame offense”, it seems that Washington had 15 first downs and more than twice the yardage that Notre Dame managed in the entire game, if this year’s Washington squad is a measuring stick for Notre Dame’s struggles then i think it’s time to show Weis and his fat butt the door and give him the boot.
If we pretend that the first half against Oregon state never happened this defense could easily be the best of all time, also imagine if those 1st round pick seniors from last year had never left for the NFL our line up would look something like this: Maualuga, Cushing, Rivers at LB; LoJack, Sed, Fili Moala, Kyle Moore at D line; Taylor Mays, Kevin Ellison, Cary Harris and Kevin Thomas as defensive backs. That’s a daunting prospect for any offense to prepare for. After last year I thought that the defense would suffer major setbacks after losing so much talent and experience but I was obviously proved wrong, remember: USC doesn’t rebuild it reloads. That’s a testament to Pete Carroll’s coaching and recruiting skills. Pete we love you!
