"High Academics"
Is there any way to actually verify that Notre Dame can't compete because...
With its tough admission standards, Notre Dame can't admit many top players
Seriously, they aren't Stanford or an Ivy League school. Lou Holtz managed to get all of the players he wanted in, as did Bob Davie.
Does anyone know of a website or source that can actually back-up (or hopefully refute) these stupid claims?
Just tired of all the spin, excuses, and holier than thou crap.
This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Conquest Chronicles' writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Conquest Chronicles' writers or editors.

I think it's BS...
if only because ND has gotten some really good recruiting classes these last couple years.
I think the question is can ND actually get a blue-chip coach? :-)

ND Graduates 90%
That’s the one statistic that is impressive. The national average is in the mid-60’s.

that is impressive, however, they could just take the players they claim they cant let in and… you know… teach them. I think that would be a great way to repay the athletes for the millions that they exploit out of them.

Academic Standards
That is the last excuse for desperate and failing programs. The Furd used it after Willingham left and they’re team slid into suckitude (conveniently forgetting that they had the same standards while Willingham was there and they seemed to do well).
Hell, this year even brought the babybruins of Ucla into the Academic Standards argument … claiming that their standards were higher than everyone in the Pac-10 but the Furd. Absurd, of course, but then again when your team sucks the fans need to hang their hat on some excuse aside from the obvious.

Ugh
Way too many typos in that comment of mine. That should teach me not to post before having sufficient coffee.

And that of course explains why
DeSean Jackson was never offered by UCLA, along with many other top California players.

What frak said
While I am positive that Ucla’s pristine Academic Reputation would never have suffered someone like D-Jax attending the bastion of education nestled in the paradise of Westwood – consider your powder blue selves lucky an exception wasn’t made. He turned out to be more cancer than cure, and despite his talent, in the end it probably really wasn’t worth it.

seriously?
fUCLA didn’t bother to offer Jackson because they new he wouldn’t go there in a million years. They saved their recruiting budget and effort for the players that might actually say yes.

But the athletic department currently seems to feel differently.

Got thugs?
C’mon now! Academic standards, APR, and “no one remembers who came in 2nd place”.
What’s IT GOT TO DO with championships? It’s all about MONEY, it doesn’t take intellectual savvy to deduce that. Nor can one be accused of being jaded, or cynical, or simple-minded in concluding this to be true.
Yes, obtaining excellence in academics and sport is the universal moral ideal for the NCAA member institutions, but the futility in universally reaching that objective is practical impossibility for all intents and purposes. Dependent on geography, economy, respective mission, and administration- academics and athletics are mutually exclusive from one university to another. And if that’s the case for even ONE campus out of 400. . . . . . it tips the “fairness” balance immensely.
“Shut up and play”. . . . . . ParagonSC hits that nail square on the head. It should be CC’s operative phrase. Not only is that phrase topically appropriate, it’s practical truism.
