GameDay Open Thread USC vs. New Mexico State

New Mexico St. Aggies at USC Trojans, Nov 18, 2008 6:00 PM PST

I am going to put this up in the hope that anyone in the LA area will be able to listen to this on the radio. 710 ESPN no longer streams the games over the internet and its not on TV so I am SOL.

So, if anyone listens to the game leave your obervations here.

FIGHT ON!

Noel Johnson
  1. rated high school basketball in ESPN’s Top 100 players just committed to Coach Floyd’s 2009 recruiting class. He’s from Georgia- and has a grip of basketball mentors that are former all-stars and hall of famers. This young man’s dad is “Cheese” Johnson, ex-Golden State Warrior, my favorite team. (what can I say? i’m from the Bay Area!)

"Oh, would you look at that! You see, I just checked. . . .and it's true. I'm out of nerves for you to try to get on. There'll be NO MORE talkin', feel me?" words I woke up saying coming out of a trip-ass dream the other night. -Bix

[edit]

the above should read "#53 rated high school . . . . . ". Don’t know how I put "1. rated. . . " That was weird.

'SC wins, on to San Juan, Puerto Rico

USC beat New Mexico State to go to 2 – 0, by the final score of 73 60. Taj Gibson had a monster 22 pts., 10 rebounds, and 5 blocked shots. Lewis had 16 and 4. DeMar got 7. Hackett played aggressively, especially on defense he actually fouled out.

some thoughts

I thought the team played well. The defense was exceptional, but their shooting can use some work. The first half was great, but they looked sluggish in the 2nd. I was impressed overall. We’ll have to wait and see how they respond to Pac-10 teams.

Gibson was the most consistent of all players

Went to the game it was ok, SC pulled out to a 31-16 lead with about 7min. left in first half then they fell asleep. Dee was good Simmons and Washington play great dee and caused a lot of problems for NMS. Trojans looked out of cinch in second half but finally got it going, Refs were out of control and almost got Derozen hurt with strange calls. All in all it was an okay game, but if dudes would have taken charge at end of 1st half more players could have played in second.

Defense

Obviously our guys are going to have nights when the shots just aren’t falling. I am glad we have a coach who emphasizes defense so much as that will keep us in games to the bitter end and give the team a chance to win. The offense will come as the season continues, but as long as everyone hustles on D then there should be no problems.
