Willingham to step down at end of season
Just saw it on ESPN's College Football Live. No link to any story on ESPN.
Soon as I get I will post it up. It will be interesting to see how the team responds to this news.

UPDATE - Here is the story in the Seattle Times.
Washington coach Tyrone Willingham has announced his resignation but will coach out the season for the Huskies.
"It is my desire to complete and finish the football season and do that in the manner that I have done it unwavering in my approach and commitment to my young men," Willingham said today.
Scott Woodward, the UW athletic director, said he wanted Willingham to finish the season to keep continuity in the program.
Woodward said he wanted to make the decision now so that the Huskies can get "a head start" on the process of finding another coach.

I guess this is good for the Huskies
it means they can start in on finding a new coach, figure out which recruits they’ll lose without Ty, and they don’t have to have the media wondering each week if they’ll fire him.
Hopefully the new coach is a better recruiter and developer of talent. The Pac 10 needs a good UW program in the worst way.
You know what? Fuck you Sports Gods, fuck you.

There isn’t any doubt that he wouldn't be coming back next year
I think he made the right choice by just resigning instead of prolong the inevitability of UW firing him as head coach and save a little face in the process. Now UW can slow the bleeding to by looking to next year and try to address problems that have been hampering the program the last few years. All I can say that it is going to be a long and arduous road back to the glory days of pre-sanctions Don James football
On another related note this has been a TERRIBLE year for sports in the state of Washington, the Mariners are and have remained a last place team, Clay Bennett basically ripped out the soul from Seattle by stealing away the Sonics and moving them to OKC, the Seahawks are languishing in a slow decline to oblivion after losing Shaun Alexander, Hasselbeck and Holmgren for next year a far cry from that year they went to the superbowl, UW is the only BCS team with out a win, WSU 69-0 nuff said.

I think he was basically forced to resign as he said “quiting is not in my make-up”. Like stated above, I hope UW gets back on it’s feet sooner rather than later.
