An interesting tidbit from ucla/'furd

I caught this on Dohn's blog earlier today...

I spoke to UCLA offensive coordinator Norm Chow after the game about coach Rick Neuheisel, and Neuheisel saying he wanted to pull QB Kevin Craft late in the second quarter but was talked out of it by Chow.

"He's an emotional football coach, and he's a very good football coach, and we were all disappointed in Kevin's play,'' Chow said. "But at that point in time, with two minutes to go, what did we do, put together a two-minute drive and get three points? It wasn't the time. I didn't think it was the time, but he's the head coach. He's allowed to do what he wants to do.

"To put a new guy in for the two-minute drill doesn't make sense."

I think its clear that Neuheisel is feeling the pressure to get something done. This team is progressing but not the way and not as fast as the coaches have hoped, I don't care what some bruin fans are saying (we are watching this team grow before our eyes...). Craft is hardly progressing, he commits the same mistakes over and over. Sure, he has gutted some plays out that have resulted in wins but let's not get carried away the opposing team had a lot to with that as well. This was not the Leinart/Jarrett hook-up on 4th-and-9, that call was made against some pretty good coverage. Stanford went into typical prevent defense and it did just that... prevented them from winning.

WIth a Pac-10 that is down when compared to previous seasons, this is actually a good opportunity for ucla to make up some ground in the beauty contest aspect of the conference. Yesterday's win over Stanford goes a long way to building some character for that team as anyone with half a brain can see. But where it matters most is in the area of recruiting, a good showing is a good thing for prospective recruits. No secret there either.

But...

As I have said in the past, if the pressure to perform and to achieve positive results gets to be too much will RN revert back to his old ways? This is an insight into who he is and it is telling. If I am RN I am not happy about Chow putting that out there, it leaves too much to speculate.

But that's just me...
