Granny Holtz said what!?!?
i didn't see this but it is all over the message boards but apparently Lou Holtz put a whole shoe store in his mouth.
but according to many readers, and a couple of message boards, Lou Holtz just dropped a Hitler reference during one installment of College Football Live.
The context of the conversation was about Rich Rodriguez’s not-so-great start as the University of Michigan’s head coach and Holtz chose this phrase as part of his analysis.: “Ya know, Hitler was a great leader too.”
That’s not a good pep talk, Dr. Lou…
Rece Davis and Mark May were apparently taken a little aback. As we know, ESPN doesn’t tolerate Hitler references, no matter how innocent they may be, so it’s safe to assume that the Hall of Fame head coach will probably be off-air for a little while or forced to issue some sort of apology.
Could you imagine if some USC homer in that position had said that...right he'd be skewered. Yeah I know he apologized later on during halftime of the Vandy/UGA game but you can't be making those comments in this day in age.
What's the over/under of granny having to take a little time off?
It's time for him to go...

He joins MArge Schott
the former owner of the Reds. Now they both think Hitler was a great leader. Thanks Dr. Lou.
You have got to be kidding me. Marge Fucking Schott who kept Nazi memorabilia in her house??
Objectively, someone who whips a country into a frenzy where they’ll exterminate 6 million Jews and another 6 million gypsies, Slavs, gays, I know I’m leaving out more but you get the idea. Then he got them thinking about taking over all of Europe and then proceeded to almost do it. Clearly he had some gift for leadership. If he were a poor leader, no one would have ever listened to him. NOW, he used his leadership for evil, that’s objective and anyone who says Holtz is a crypto-Nazi or anything close to it is being disingenuous.
Was this reference a bad idea, poorly worded and altogether a non-sensical analogy? Oh yeah.
Now is Holtz perhaps too old? Out of touch? Most times unintelligible and bumbling in his verbage? Yes, and top of all that he now has that goofy Mr. Magoo voice and it’s quite sad to watch that once glorious coach reduced to this. He was unbeaten against USC, what was it … for 13 years a row at one stretch? 13. Jesus. Thirteen freaking times, guys. I can’t imagine! That’s like ten entire classes who never, ever beat Notre Dame.

I have absolutely no Idea where you are going with this comment
you are all over the map.
Holtz should have never used that reference…Period! You can’t get a little bit pregnant. I can just imagine if a pro USC pundit made that statement…my god the outrage!
Its simply inexcusable.
ESPN Gave Holtz a pass when it suspended another ESPN Talking head for bringing that name up so there is a bit of a double standard
As for his record against USC it is impressive but I don’t see what that has to do with this conversation.
We're agreeing so violently!!
Where did I defend Holtz’s goofy and altogether mashed up metaphor? Nowhere. I merely said Holtz isn’t a racist and wasn’t calling UM’s HC a racist. I’m in 100% agreement that he should have been suspended, or maybe even fired given his performance over the last few years. Nowhere did I say, “Suck it, Holtz is fine and leave him alone.”
I brought up his record against USC because you don’t seem to be giving him the respect he’s earned. He defeated a lot of very good USC teams, so to just dismiss him as a bumbling goof would be also a slight against you – how can a bumbling goof defeat you thirteen times in a row?

Whatever...
I don’t need to light my hair on fire over Holtz to show him respect. I don’t think anyone who loves college football would dipute his success but just like john Wooden its in the past and it only really matters to a specific schools faithful fans. Any respect Holtz might have gained is canceled out with his stupid comments calling USC the “University of Spoiled Children”. He has lost all sense of perspective and his anti-USC comments are as tiring as Mark MAy’s Pro-USC comments. Neither offer anything up that I find interesting.
"USC = Univ of Spoiled Children"
has been around for years. As HC of Notre Dame why shouldn’t he use that? Are you saying he ruined your day with that comment? Really? I learned that when I was in grade school. So because he repeats an oft used barb, he loses “any respect (he) might have gained”? I think you’re losing as much respect referring to him as “Granny”. For someone who hates barbs so much, you certainly do a fair about of barb hurling.
No one’s asking you to light your hair on fire over Holtz. I’m merely suggesting the Trojans’ collective opinion is colored because he was so effective at visiting 13 years of misery upon you. I’m wouldn’t be the least bit objective when it comes to McKay – going 5-0-1 against UCLA, so I feel your pain.
Lest there be any confusion, a suspension should have been the least Holtz received.

you mean kind of like Pete Carroll pretty much dominating ucla???
please…no coach I have ever watched has ever called his rival something that is basically trash talk between fans…yo they are kind of above that sort of behavior.
moving on…
What's violent is the odious stench of your immaturity
Put eggs in your shoes and beat it punk-rocker. Or I’m liable to actually write something you won’t like. It’s a promise, not a threat.

Just for the record
Lou Holtz coached ND from 1986-1996 for a total of 11 seasons. During that span he was 9-1-1. He rattle off an 8 game winning streak and a 9 game unbeaten streak. While this is still impressive, it isn’t as massive as the 13 that you claim above. Still he did dominate USC during his time at ND, and I have always respected and have been annoyed by that fact. To this day Lou rarely gives USC the credit it deserves while on ESPN and maybe that draws a little bit of the Trojan ire that you see from us. All in all I don’t think that Holtz is a racist, however I stand by my first comment. He did rattle off the same comment as Schott, and that itself is an embarrassing moment.
As long as we are talking about domination Pete Carrol is 6-1 against ucla and doesn’t seem to get an once of respect from you guys.
Very well
I stand corrected. I shall do better to research my posts. I should have said Notre Dame had a 13 year unbeaten streak, not Holtz. That was sloppy on my part, I’m sorry.
Perhaps Pete Carroll would garner more respect outside of USC if there wasn’t all of this to answer for. Just a thought. (BTW, I realize comments for that post are closed, however should any of you wish to argue a point or anything, feel free to comment here.)
The biggest scandals WRT Bruins football in the past 15 years has been Donnie Edwards receiving free groceries from God knows who, DeShaun Foster keeping a FORD SUV for too long and the whole handicapped parking pass debacle. For basketball it was improper contact w/ recruits (Jim Herrick and Kevin “Dodger Boy” Malone) and of all things investigating John Wooden for contacting Kevin Love. That’s it.

YAAAAAAAAWWWWWNNNNN....
you guys hear something….
Same old crap…you can speculate all you want about PC but he hasn’t ever been censured or cited for violations by the NCAA. you can say all you want about how “minor” Slick RIck’s infractions are but he still paid the price.
PC answers to no one outside of the AD or the Chancellor. rational people get that and the only reason you clowns continue to bring it up is because you’ll do anything to be relevant plus its your rival so I really wouldn’t expect you clowns not to stir the pot…notice that most USC fans could care less about what happens at your program…its because You. Do. Not. Matter. in the national scheme of things.
Jeez, get out much?
