Schadenfreude watch, 10/12/08
Since my last post there've been a few losses in the top 5, which should not surprise anybody. OK, LSU, and Missouri have all fallen and of them, I'd be surprised if OK wasn't the only one still in the top 5 seeing as how they lost to a highly ranked team.
Moving on to other top 10 teams and their remaining schedules:
#6 Penn State has tOSU as their highest ranked opponent but they did beat Oregon State earlier this year. Their closest win was against #22 Illinois and they'll get #23 Michigan State at the end of the year.
#7 Texas Tech needed overtime to get by Nebraska yesterday, which may not help them out a whole lot. And they'll get both OK and Texas later this year, not to mention #16 Kansas and #17 OK State.
(in case you hadn't heard, #8 is USC. hope you know their schedule)
#9 BYU will only play one ranked opponent this year, #14 Utah, in the last game of the year. They've won all their games handily save for squeaking by winless Washington (who will probably beat Notre Dame!)
#10 Georgia was having a good year until they lost to #2 Alabama. They'll play 3 ranked opponents in a row starting this week, #13 Vandy, #4 LSU and #11 Florida. And then #20 Auburn before the end of the year.
#11 Florida took apart LSU last night so look to see them jump in the polls. BUT, they already lost to Mississippi last month. Before the end of the year they'll get #10 Georgia and #13 Vanderbilt.
looks to be an exciting 2 months!

I dunno
To reveal my ignorance: does Mizzou have a running game as such? Because if they don’t, I suspect that Texas will tee off on Maclin and Daniels.
As much as a Mizzou win would extend the chaos, based on what I saw of them against OK State last night, it seems unlikely that they would beat Texas.

The Colt and Chase game
Bananas! I’ll for pause for that game’s cause, you know it.
It could be said, sine male dico, I’m a big fan of Pac 10 sports, and current football play throughout the league has been inconsistent (shoddy) OR consistent (hater)- depending on perspective. But after watching the exciting play between OK-Oklahoma and Tenacious Texas this past weekend, let’s just say I “impulse bought” the Big 12’s show this year and hope the programming remains consistent with it’s content. Wow! Those athlete’s played some solid football in that game, EVERYBODY DID. And watch as my eyes look away and my face looks deformed on one side. That’s my tongue. And it’s in my cheek. So what about that game’s coaching? Stoops and Mack pulled out some bitchen plays on both sides of the ball, and I was so dumbfounded when I realized that I had been sitting buck-naked on the edge of a bed glued to the game for the past 1/2 hour. OK, I had one sock on actually. But I didn’t wanna have to explain how I managed to lose the other sock and underwear and NEVER SEE AGAIN since then?
Then I went to the ’SC game vs. ASU.
Never thought I’d utter the following: I preferred the OK/TX game on Saturday.
Colt has stepped up his game this year. He’s improved immensely in my eyes this year. Chase is HERE. And that means what he brings to the table AND all the fellas he’s been rollin’ with the past couple of years are worthy competitors in the world of BCS football. R-E-C-O-G-N-I-Z-E !!! Let’s just say this, for me – at this point of the season, I’ll only watch USC, Oregon, or Cal play on TV if I should have the compulsion for Sat football. Otherwise, Big 12 and as always SEC games- will suffice in a pinch.
Texas will get by, it’ll be a squeeker and come down to who has less penalties and better special teams play on that day. Chase and Colt will get their teammates to go beyond their max sure, and the numbers may very well be retardedly high for both in the boxscore- but I say Coach Mack wields some of his disciplined wizadry and the ’Horns prevail.
Soundachaser, thanks a bunch for these weeklies. Yours is another show I’m diggin’. Just sayin’. . ..

Anything is possible
I think the Big12 and SEC will take each other out of the equation. I’m more worried about Penn State. Only Ohio State seems to have a shot at beating them. They have a very solid team, and their special teams play has been awesome. Maybe Mich State might also have a chance, but the Buckeyes seem to be the last team to keep Penn State from an undefeated season. Texas will end up blowing a game or two. I also expect Alabama to lose to LSU or Florida, and maybe even Auburn.

Read the following in jest. . . . .
. . . .and remember I truly and seriously am a huge Tide fan. Have been since as long as I remember being a conscious college football fan.
What you got against ‘Bama? If the equation starts with or as variables attached to St. Nick, then I say go ahead then. What you got? ’Cause I’m sure to provide for you plenty in my reply. It’s simple, really. The Crimson Tide have a long way to go in wrapping up the SEC. But lemme tell you, from their first game to their more recent- they’ve played with class and quality throughout. Their progress took a hit against Tulane but progressing they’re STILL DOING. They’re at it this year. And frak, Auburn? Homegrown puh-leeze! The Bawners ain’t got NOTHING COMING! No luck nor new OC is gonna help ‘em against ’Bama. I’m already bored just thinking about Tubby’s thick head conniving things on the sideline against my beloved Tide. (hate him, it’s true. i do) And I’ll concede on LSU or, (that’s: ORRRRRR) Florida. But not both. By SEC championship game, I don’t care who it ends up being- The Nicktator will have ‘Bama peaking and blowing through that game victoriously. It’ll come down to the realization that this year’s roster of players, as a collective respective to their skill and ability, will go down in the glorious annals of Tide lore as quite special. Otherwise, it’ll end up being Julio and Star’s junior year before they’ll be just as stacked and stoked to compete for the Crystal football.
Imagine? A Trojan / Tide BCS championship game this year? Shiiiiiiiiiiit. I’ll be a monkey’s uncle by marriage.
Lay off the Tide frak. Lay off ’em! (all in jest buddy. had to. ;-)

Just because Auburn is a rivalry game
and the Tide should be heavily favored. It seems like the underdog comes out on top most of the time in the ‘Bama-Auburn game. So I’m picking the tigers.

That's gonna be a scary game
The Bawners are bleeding the football blues this year, as is Tennessee. Even still, you’re right about the Iron Bowl. A game of craziness and defense. . . . .always.
Paragon’s answer regarding our next possible “slip up” game posted in today’s Blog Round Table gave me pause. I have been so singular in my hopes that our Trojans continue to progress and looking back- it seems fucla’s “Monopoly” ad was something that occured LAST YEAR. But it didn’t and we have yet to play Slick Rick the Tricky Dick and his two Gonads. Weird hah? I’m now quite vexed at the notion we might LOSE to that team. That! team! If they (ucla) close out our season with a win over us. . . . . . .same with Auburn over Bama. . . . . .that would just suck the bigass chubby.

Missouri's Running Game and other errata
Although Missouri only gained 64 yards against Oklahoma St., their season total for rushing yards currently stands at 1030 which puts them at ~172 yds/game (a respectable number, but coming against relatively weak competition so far). An important part of Missouri’s offense is the Quarterback and OC’s ability to read the defense and make the call on run or pass based on alignment and personnel (I can’t emphasize the personnel part enough, I expect Texas will try to disguise coverages by bringing in additional DBs but disguising them on stunts or as LBs). Obviously the Tigers will err to pass in a 50-50 situation, but the run element is still there as they do not use the same offense as pass happy Texas Tech or run first West Virginia.
Although I am probably stating the obvious, I think psychology will play a pretty big role in the upcoming game. Texas will be coming off a huge win over their biggest rival with their highest ranking in about three years while Missouri will face almost the exact opposite, a difficult loss that dropped them out of the top ten. USC isn’t the only team that has let down games after beating top tier opponents.
With regards to the national situation, consider how often everyone has had to revise their expectations this season, and whether it is reasonable to try to predict anything with any kind of accuracy at this point. There is still a long ways to go.

TCU over BYU
Who saw that one coming? TCU pretty much dominated BYU the entire game, 32-7 it speaks volumes about their level of play.
I know many people wrote them off after getting pummeled by Oklahoma, but I think that TCU is now a legitimate contender especially with a 7-1 record and a win against a top ten team under it’s belt it can make a run at possibly a BCS bowl or one of the upper tier bowls.
