BlogPoll Ballot ending week #7 (Draft)

In putting this weeks poll together I tried to be as open minded as possible but I also felt that teams had to be held accountable. as usual I will only comment on only the top 10-15.

Dropped Out: Northwestern (#24).

Texas goes to the top spot in my poll for simply never giving up. Oklahoma had their way for a bit with Texas in the first half but the one thing that OU didn't see coming was that Texas plays the whole game. OU has played a lot of teams where they were so far ahead that they coasted and padded stats after the third qtr. Texas was on full tilt for the whole game so it would not be a surprise to me if they, OU, were gassed becasue they had been so rarely tested.

Penn St. moves to #2 because they are the real deal. I am not a Penn State fan and I am less of a JoPa fan but it is hard to argue that they are clicking on all cylinders. Yes, Wisconsin is less than advertised but this was a big road win for PSU and they should be rewarded.

Alabama was on a bye week but they move up a spot.

This is one pick that will probably draw the most criticism but I put Florida at #4 with their complete dismantling of LSU. Yes, they lost to Ole Miss at home, a loss that was worse than SC's loss to Oregon State but they also beat Arkansas convincingly on the road. Simply put...Florida looked absolutely dominating last night.

OU moves to #5 with their loss to Texas. I am not happy about putting them at #5 but their one-loss is better than USC’s one-loss. Looking at OU’s schedule shows that really haven’t been tested for a whole game like they were against Texas but at the same time  this wasn’t a bad loss as the Red River Rivalry is really more of a home game for Texas but the #1 team with all those weapons, especially after a very solid first half, should have kept the tempo up for the whole game but this still a very good team.

Begrudgingly I put USC at #6, I originally dropped them to #9. But I think they have a better “record” than Texas Tech and BYU. With yesterday's performance though I am simply not convinced that SC can get to the BCS title game. I realize that every team is allowed a bad game but this up one week down the next should not endear voters, but it will, to move SC up in the polls. 4 turnovers in the 3rd qtr against ASU does not show me that SC is ready to play in that type of game. They can't simply rely on the defense to shut teams down in every game. Yesterday’s game should have been a 42-0 simple as that. They move up but I am not really thrilled with it.

Texas Tech moves to #7 with their overtime win over Nebraska. Not the prettiest win but they got it done.

BYU is at #8 with their win over New Mexico that wasn’t like their wins that we have seen earlier this season.

Georgia moves to #9 as they beat up on a Tennessee that just seems to have no direction. Matthew Stafford had a career day passing for over 300 yards and Knowshon Moreno rushed for over 100. Yes, I realize its Tennessee but it was still a very good win.

Utah moves to  #10 with their win over Wyoming. Their game against BYU at the end of the season looms larger each week.

I was thoroughly surprised by Oklahoma States win over Mizzou...AT Mizzou! They played some great football last night forcing Chase Daneil to throw 3 INT's. Mizzou had all but wrapped up the #1 ranking if they had won last night but OK St. was having none of that, they move up to #11.

As for LSU and MIzzou they fall out of my top 10 for now. As for Mizzou they lost at home...enough said. Chase Daniel did not have a Heisman worthy performance. Looking more closely at LSU you can now see that they aren't quite there yet. The comeback win over Auburn looks less impressive after Auburns loss to Arkansas. LSU still has some QB issues that they are working through but I thought their defense would have kept it a little closer.

So, that's it. Fire away, tell where I am wrong. This ballot gets posted on CBSSports.com at noon tomorrow so any changes have to be in before 10 am.

Hmmm...

I think USC should be 5th in all honesty, as Florida’s loss is still worse than the loss to Oregon St. and happened at the swamp. It is also worth noting that despite SC’s sloppy play, their margin of victory over ASU (28-0) is still significantly better than Georgia’s win (27-10). I also think OU should drop a little more as both as they do not seem to have a championship caliber defense, although it is still fair to rank them at 4th or 5th. Finally, CAL should not be lower than Michigan St as they won the head to head match up between the two teams. It would be like ranking Ohio State ahead of USC if they beat Penn State.

I hear you...

but the fact that MSU has played 2 more games than Cal is why I have them higher.

As for OU…SC isn’t the #5 team in the nation to me…not yet, and even though they are undefeated OU is still better than Texas Tech. So moving OU down would hurt SC more in my eyes. As for UF completely agree about their loss to Ole Miss. but their LSU win was better and they beat Arky on the road while SC has a great win at home against the Ducks and an average win against ASU at home.

Let me chew on it but that “win” yesterday really left me scratching my head when SC needed to really unload on ASU…the defense didd but the offense left a lot of points on the table.

OK #6, I thought that’s what it would be, we are in a good position under the radar It’s every week we will work are way up. This keeps team alert and ready for playing against anyone.
