Mayo accepts gift from Nugget's Anthony

Apparantly OJ Mayo accepted tickets to the Lakers game against the Nuggets from Carmelo Anothony.  The tickets were $230 tickets at Staples.  It seems like an innocent mistake, but it is a secondary violation.  OJ might have to donate the cost of the tickets to charity to square it up with the NCAA.  No doubt there will be calls for OJ's head on a platter from some residents of Los Angeles.

It's good to know
that the NCAA goes after OJ for a simple mistake and John Wooden for nothing at all. You would think they'd be short on time as they assemble a college football playoff so we could have a true national champion, oh wait...

Wooden is untouchable
The man is an icon.  I personally don't have a problem with him talking to potential recruits to ucla, even though its a violation.  He is much part of the ucla program now as he was then.  The stuff he got away with in the past was much worse in my opinion.

I read Wooden's deal is no violation at all
because he's a paid consultant to the campus. That's okay under the rules...right?

Yeah
it ended up not being a violation, but they investigated it and the fact that they spent their time on such a trivial thing is ridiculous, but so is the nature of the NCAA.

Didn't know he was a consultant
If he had no connection officially to ucla it would be a violation, similar to the allegations that Reggie Bush talked to Joe McKnight.  The NCAA focuses on the strangest stuff.

WTF?
Shouldn't it be required that ALL NCAA COMPLIANCE OFFICERS on any campus walk around their campus with A GIANT NEON SIGN denoting "NEED COMPLIANCE?" ???

What I do not get
is how you can be a student athlete at USC, with the Bush investigation going on, and not know that its a violation to accept free Laker tickets.

Here's a good take on it
This blog has a good take on OJ's perspective.

I personally think this is BS, even though he did violate a rule.

Well played killakev-
Great link! I was cracking the f_ck up!

Wanted to add a comment, but. . . .friggin' WORK! (oh, that again)

Thanks a bunch, got that blog bookmarked. Never heard about it before. It's got my attention in a big way now.

I don't even think it was a violation
If he knew Anthony beforehand, that makes it legit.  The only exception to this would be if Anthony were giving the tickets to OJ as a representative of the Denver organization rather than as a friend, but I don't think the staunchest bruin fan could make that argument.

no biggie here, as far as I can tell.

Well if Dunleavy can give his kid tix
Then why not Carmelo?  I have been to 100's of Laker games, and have never paid.  Sounds like Mayo has been to 3 or 4 events.

It's over
OJ Donates $460 to a charity, and the NCAA restores his eligibility.  Once again, our evil plan of master manipulation of the NCAA succeeds.   MUAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHAHHA.

So do we own the NCAA too?
I can't keep up with all of our nefarious plots and schemes.

Didn't you get the memo
We are making so much money for the NCAA that they pretty much leave us alone.  There's a double secret meaning on how we are going to undermine the whole system next week.  I'll send you an e-vite so you can mark it on your calendar.
